I am on a creative journey.

Lyra’s Kitchen!
My latest book! I love it.
It is subtle.
Smooth, if that is what you are in the mood for.
Deep, if you are looking out for it.

The narrative appears to flow throughout time without the characteristics of typical plot structures.

The tale seems to stop and focus on the least expected elements.

It is about women, roles, families, the light and dark aspects of human nature, food, fantasy, reality, society, tradition, and individuality.

It winds its way around a kitchen—food, yes—food.
It winds its way around many things—ever so subtly.

It's unconventional.
And unconventional is always medicinal.

I write, create art, and cook.

I started writing by creating diary novels, and my charac

First condition to be met is that I would be wearing my invisibility cloak at all times. Second condition to be met is that I would have all the time in the world to observe and explore while there. I want to experience 'watching' these worlds in action. The worlds I would visit are Plato's Atlantis (fictional?, not sure), James Hilton's Shangri La, Asgard of Norse Mythology, Tír na nÓg of Celt lore - I would definitely spend alot of time observing the ways of the druids. Avalon/Camelot is on my itinerary, mainly to observe Merlin, Morgan, Arthur and their world. Harry Potter's world is next - from Hogwarts to Diagon Alley and of course Hogsmeade, St. Mungo's Hospital and the 9 3/4 Platform! I have to admit that if I could squeeze one more world into my trip I would go to Macondo and observe the lives of the Buendia family.(less)

It's always too long to tackle in the limited free time I have, but the joy of discovering new books or revisiting old favorites is what keeps me going!
Right now, I am reading The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak.
I will read The Wildwood Chronicles this summer. This genre has always held a special place in my heart. I've never outgrown it, and I'm always eager to dive back into its world! I have never read these fantasy books, and I want to take a look at them. Sometimes, I find childhood and young adult fantasy to be quite creative. I'm curious to see the blend of Portland, Oregon, and fantasy!

I want to revisit 'Foucault's Pendulum' to see what new insights I can gain from it, and finally delve into Kate Morton's 'The Forgotten Garden' because I've heard so many good things about it. I'm also excited to explore the world of 'Gormenghast '.

"So many books, so little time," said Frank Zappa!(less)

“Ink, dark as night, creates words, and as they are read, they become the little beads and baubles of the mind.”
Suzanne Valtsioti

“I will gather up a lifetime of things unsaid, write them down, and then offer them all to be lit up for security and burned. All at once.
And then I can watch the whole thing turn to ash. The whole damn thing.
Light the match, and watch it burn.
What a loaded bonfire that would be though, if this gets burned when I finish filling up the whole book.
What a cleansing experience that will be!
If flames could speak, what a story they would tell.
They say that the original bonfires were the burning up of bones. Bad bones. Bad people. Enemies. Turning bones to ash. And it was the burning up of curses and all things bad as well. God knows we have had and still have enemies, and even curses. Real ones.”
Suzanne Valtsioti, Mallias The Greek Gangster the story of a card cheat

“Our deepest secrets are nothing but unsung songs, Lyra."
Palmyra would always repeat this to Lyra at every opportunity.
"And certain vegetables,
Palmyra would repeat to Lyra at every opportunity,
"when held in the hand of the cook, can just pick these secrets up and listen to them being silently sung.”
Suzy Valtsioti, Lyra's Kitchen: A Culinary Chronicle of Simmering Secrets

“Water carries all the stories. That is why we are made up of water. Our bodies store one continuous story about us, the story of our first ancestors to the present moment.
That is why we carry the battle of the dark and the light.”
Suzy Valtsioti, Lyra's Kitchen: A Culinary Chronicle of Simmering Secrets

“Each secret is a song:

its lyrics and melody are unique,

like a fingerprint.”
Suzy Valtsioti, Lyra's Kitchen: A Culinary Chronicle of Simmering Secrets

“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
Oscar Wilde

“So many books, so little time.”
Frank Zappa
