G. S. Jennsen is a speculative and science fiction author, as well as a futurist, geek, gamer, programmer and editor. She has become an internationally bestselling author since her first novel, Starshine, was published in March 2014. She has chosen to continue writing under an independent publishing model to ensure the integrity of her series and her ability to execute on the vision she’s had for it since its genesis.

While she has been a lawyer, a software engineer and an editor, she’s found the life of a full-time author preferable by several orders of magnitude.

When she isn’t writing, she’s gaming or working out or getting lost in the mountains that loom large outside the windows in her home. Or she’s dealing with a flooded basement, or

Narrating a book as lengthy as VERTIGO will be is a very time-consuming effort (she spent upwards of 100 hours narrating STARSHINE), so in part it will be a question of whether she will have the time several months from now.

But Pyper was a joy to work with and did an excellent job capturing the varied characters and especially Alex and Caleb, so I would love to have her back for VERTIGO if at all possible.

UPDATE: I just wanted to let you know Ms. Down has begun recording the VERTIGO audiobook :). Look for it around Christmas! (less)

The Clock Is Ticking

THE UNIVERSE WITHIN is almost here! Last time, I promised you I would tell you a little about Alex and Caleb’s new friends in the book. The Elakri are a fascinating species. Closed off from the rest of the universe, they’ve forgotten the heights to which they once rose (see Extinguishing the Stars). Yet within their prison, they shine so brightly.

Laurent is a physicist who unexpectedly finds himse

Not at all! Pyper is very much human, and has been narrating my audiobooks for almost 10 years now. If you're referring to Starshine, I'll concede she starts off a little formal, but as she gets to know the characters, she really brings them to life See Full Answer

“We don’t get to choose what happens to us—but we always get to choose how we react to it.”
G.S. Jennsen, Starshine

“The brain represented the most complex organism ever to exist, and impossible to tame. Morality could not be spawned by tweaking a few genes or shutting off a few neurons. Not yet. So though humanity conquered the very stars, it remained unable to conquer the darkness within.”
G.S. Jennsen, Starshine

“You’re covered in blood again.”

“I really am.”

“Why are you always covered in blood when I wake up after being unconscious?”
“Usually for the same reason you were unconscious, I think.”
G.S. Jennsen, Vertigo

“We don’t get to choose what happens to us—but we always get to choose how we react to it.”
G.S. Jennsen, Starshine

“That excuse only works until you discover the person is merely an individual like any other.”
G.S. Jennsen, Starshine

“Yes, she loved her ship more than she had loved him. But what she loved even more was what it gave her: freedom, and the key to the marvels of space. It gave her the stars, and she doubted she could ever love anything or anyone more than she loved the stars.”
G.S. Jennsen, Starshine

“They sit in their soundproof rooms and issue tone-deaf edicts and call themselves controlling the world. And one day they ask you to die for them.”

“Alexis, please mind your mouth. Cursing in Russian is still cursing.”
