The Risk

Rate this book
They took too much.
Left too little.
I had nothing to lose...until him.

*****************

~Lana~

I didn't expect him.
I didn't want to fall in love.
But I can't let him go.

Logan Bennett makes the world a safer place.
He's brilliant.
He's a hero.
He locks away the sick and depraved.
But while he's saving lives, I'm taking them. Collecting the debts that are owed to me.

Ten years ago, they took from me. They left me for dead.
They should have made sure I stayed dead.

Now I'm taking from them.
One name at a time.

I've trained for too long.
I've been patient.
I can't stop now.

Revenge is best served cold...

They never see me coming, until I paint their walls red.

Logan doesn't know how they hurt me. He doesn't know about the screams they ignored. He doesn't know how twisted that town really is.

He just knows people are dying.
He doesn't know he's in love with their killer.

No one suspects a dead girl.
And Logan doesn't suspect the girl in his bed.

They're looking for a monster.
Not a girl who loves red.
Not a girl in love.

I'm a faceless nightmare.

At least until I tell them the story they've pretended never happened.

But in the end, will Logan choose them? Or will we watch them burn together?

This 5-book series has to be the best sinister-suspense I've read in a long while. Guys, please do not miss this.

Superb writing, crisp plot, amazing heroine! Brilliant! The first book is free on Amazon, I guarantee you'll one-click the heck out of the remaining serials.

⁀➷ revenge is a dish best served cold…now that i agree with. it means they forget you’re coming for them, and their screams sound so much prettier when the time finally comes.

❝come on, pretty girl.❞

⤷ pre-…PRETTY GIRL!?!?😫😫fuck. push me off a cliff. while lana paints the town red, you can for sure count on me to swoon over the romance. forever an incurable romantic.

five stars…are you surprised? bestie you shouldn’t be. i absolutely DEVOURED this first book. my new favorite series already. right up at the top with magnolia parks and addicted/calloway. i already don’t want this series to be over. do with all this information what you will bestie! i 10000000000000% recommend this series!

❥ 𝓂𝓎 𝓉𝒽𝑜𝓊𝑔𝒽𝓉𝓈:
my first initial thought: why did i not read this sooner😩this has been my most highly anticipated series this year. i’ve been so nervous to read it because idk why…but i thought i wasn’t going to like it. literally idk. don’t even ask about my thought process on that. maybe it’s just because it’s popular and my expectations were very high going into this. i was scared to be disappointed, but omg this delivered. it’s already one of my favorite series and i haven’t even finished it yet😭it’s just a series that you know is going to overall be infinity stars just by reading the first book. best feeling ever. i love this. everything about it, chefs kiss🤌🏼it has scratched an itch i didn’t even know i had.

❥ 𝓅𝓁𝑜𝓉:
she’s a serial killer. he’s the fbi profiler investigating her.
⤷ meanwhile them: 𝓯𝓪𝓵𝓵𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓲𝓷 𝓵𝓸𝓿𝓮😍

literally the best plot ever. it’s so fucking good, i’m eating every little bit of it up. like seriously what is in this book…it’s more dangerous than crack. the ending has my heart racing a mile a minute, i need to get to the second book immediately. there are trigger warnings my lovelies so please look those up beforehand if you need to!

❥ 𝓌𝓇𝒾𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔:
VERY descriptive writing omg. my stomach is churning just thinking about some of the things described already so i can’t even imagine what will come in the next books. i do love how descriptive it is tho! it’s also very good and very addicting. the chapters are short so you will FLY right through these books for sure. it’s a very well written book and you can just tell simply by how it makes you feel…this is the first book and i’ve felt just about everything already.

❥ 𝓇𝑜𝓂𝒶𝓃𝒸𝑒:

❝you called me your girl,❞ she says quietly.
my grin spreads as i lean over, brushing a kiss over her bare shoulder since she’s wearing a camisole.
❝as far as i’m concerned, you are.❞

okay this may be an unpopular opinion, but i don’t mind insta-love when i feel that two characters have an instant/strong connection. if i can feel their connection as quickly as the two mc’s get together…i’m all for it and i WILL eat that up. when i tell you all that i never thought i’d enjoy a sex scene that happened before the 100 page mark so fucking much. let me tell you besties…the spice!? HOT HOT HOT🥵these two just give me that warm, fuzzy feeling. they had me laughing aaaa they’re so unintentionally funny. i was not expecting to love this couple so much, but so happy that i do!🥹

°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・・:*.ೃ࿔⋆❀°

❥ 𝓁𝒶𝓃𝒶 𝓂𝓎𝑒𝓇𝓈

⁀➷ sometimes people don’t find justice. sometimes they have to take it.

and the baddest bitch award goes to…LANA😩lana omg. lana and logan are a hot ass couple. guess what, lana is hotter. she is THAT girl. like i’m about to get on one knee, or both…either way works. she’s such a survivor. logan describes her as perfect and i agree. she’s easily my favorite fmc. anytime someone asks me that question, it’s going to be the easiest answer now🤭i can’t wait to continue with lana’s revenge plan. she slays so hard💅🏼

❥ 𝓁𝑜𝑔𝒶𝓃 𝒷𝑒𝓃𝓃𝑒𝓉𝓉

⁀➷ ❝we all have our strengths. i don’t get inside their heads. i crawl into their psyche. it’s the only way to understand their delusional mentality, because you can’t think like a rational person would. a convoluted mind is one that forms its own reality. that’s why i need to know about these kills.❞

every time i think about this series, my first thought is instantly: lana myers. with that being said, i didn’t expect to love the mmc so much because i feel like i haven’t heard much about him. as much as i love him…the focus is on lana hehe and as it should be💅🏼logan is such a swoon worthy man tho🥺i love how he gives so much life to lana and vice versa. its truly a beautiful thing! i love his pov so much because it’s interesting to read about someone investigating serial killers. i also love his pov because his thoughts about lana give me🦋i overall couldn’t have asked for two better mc’s.

°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・・:*.ೃ࿔⋆❀°

❝it’s lana. lana myers. feel free to investigate me, mr. profiler.❞
❝i’d rather you surprise me, lana myers.❞

oh he’s in for a surprise alright and honestly the anticipation gives me all the anxiety in the world.

°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・・:*.ೃ࿔⋆❀°

❥ 𝒻𝒶𝓋𝑜𝓇𝒾𝓉𝑒 𝓆𝓊𝑜𝓉𝑒𝓈:
❝if you ever want help feeling alive, call me. i could use some life as well.❞
❝where the hell have you been?❞ he says against my lips. stop it😭🦋
❝they only get you when you can’t see them coming because you’re too strong for them.❞
❝you are strong. you’re intimidating. people don’t see you as weak, so they strike when you’re most vulnerable.❞
it took a while to see my scars on my face as marks of survival instead of brutal reminders of that night. the scars on other parts of my body didn’t heal as cleanly. but the scars on my soul took the longest to deal with.
he came into this alley as the predator. he’ll die as the prey.

if Criminal Minds and Dexter had a baby, it would be this book.

how- how can a female serial killer who brutally mutilates, tortures, and murders people and an FBI agent who hunts serial killers be one of the dorkiest, cutest characters EVER ?

description

i did it again guys. i judged the book by its cover... im sorry!!! i legit thought this was some fifty shades typa shit but heck no. this is mostly about revenge because something happened to Lana when she was 16 so now 10 years later, she's out torturing and murdering those who wronged her and now she meets Logan 5 months after she started her killings each month, and he is actually the FBI agent who's hunting her??? dude. What. A. Plot.

Lana Myers (h)
she's a crazy bitch and i love her. when she's torturing the guys who ruined her life, i get so proud and i just-

description

thats my bishhh. like, you go girl!! go get your revenge bb!!

even though she enjoys torturing those assholes and has psychopathic tendencies, she can also be a big dork? and because of this and the fact that she has dark hair, green-ish eyes, and she's short, i can't help but picture her as Emilia Clarke?? maybe?? i don't know but that's who i'll picture as Lana till the end of time (i might be biased because she's my favorite actress but don't mind me).

my criminology mind is screaminggg. all the things i learned in my crim classes flashed through my head and i wholeheartedly believe that this is how journal articles should be written because i would actually be interested in my classes for once.

listen. this entire series made me wanna be an FBI profiler/agent but uh- they have to be physically adept and i, unfortunately, am not.

Holy hell! This book was fantastic! I had never heard of S. T. Abby before now, but she has blown me away with this book. This is one twisted and fascinating story. I will be one-clicking her releases from this point forward.

The first in a series of five serials, 'The Risk' was suspenseful and utterly addicting. I could not put this super short book down. Once you've finished the first one, you're going to want to delve into the next book immediately. Luckily, the entire series has been released, so you don't have to live with the anxious anticipation for long.

Logan Bennett is a very successful FBI criminal profiler. His team is the FBI's "dream team" of sorts. They get assigned the toughest cases, tracking down and capturing the country's worst murderers. He is the quintessential "good guy" and a real-life hero.

Lana Myers is his polar opposite. Her life experiences have taught her that good does not always prevail. She is no longer a young girl with illusions of a criminal justice system that is fair and just. She knows all to well that there is true evil in this world. She has no qualms about handing out her own special brand of justice to those that she deems deserving of punishment. I can't say that I disagreed either. Lana is quite possibly one of my favorite leading female characters ever...and she's a serial killer!

When Logan and Lana cross paths, sparks fly immediately. One chance meeting at a coffee shop sets a chain of events in motion that will change the lives of these two forever. I was completely glued to this story. I knew that things were bound to get really ugly, but I couldn't tear myself away.

Lana knows that the last thing she should ever do is pursue a romantic relationship with an FBI profiler. However, she just can't deny herself the happiness that she feels with Logan. For his part, Logan is completely clueless about Lana's true identity or what she does when she's away from him. He has no idea that the serial killer he's been hunting is actually warming his bed at night.

From start to finish, I could not pull myself away from this story. Despite being polar opposites, S. T. Abby managed to make both Logan and Lana characters that were endearing. I loved them both, even as I feared the heartache that I know has to be looming in the distance.

This story was dark, twisted and thrilling. This first serial ended with a big cliffhanger, that had me jumping into the next one immediately. I was blown away by this story.

If you're a fan of dark, suspenseful stories that will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time, then you need to read this series. The first book is free, so you're not losing anything if you don't like it. If you're like me, you won't even want to come up for air until you've read all five. This series was phenomenal!

4.5 stars!! A romance between a serial killer and an FBI agent? Are you kidding me? SO FREAKING GOOD! I swear I’ve never read a book like this before.

We get an extremely morally grey main character, a romance I’m already in love with, AND murder mystery. I love that we get to follow Logan at his fbi job and learn about his cases while also following Lana’s murders as we try to unravel why she kills.

Plus the suspense that Lana’s serial killer secret could get exposed at any moment.

OH. MY. GOD.

This is so fucked up and twisted.
And so good.
The storyline is phenomenal.

And I'm going straight to Hell for loving it so much.

What is wrong with me?

I can't believe I loved it so much.
I can't believe I'm rooting for a serial killer.
I can't believe I enjoyed the actual torture and kills.

On to the next one!

Blushing, giggling and kicking my legs in the air.
I absolutely love Logan and he knows exactly what to say Lana and if I were Lana, I wouldn’t even be standing on two feet anymore but on my knees.

Lana is an absolute bad ass and I cannot wait to see how she develops as a characters in book 2.
Logan and Craig are a really funny duo and I’m excited to see both in book 2 as well as I’m hoping to see more of Jake since he’s Amazing.

THE ENDING WAS GREAT NOW I WILL START THE SECOND ONE BRB

Absolutely loved it. I’m addicted and I can’t wait to read more and more but I also don’t wanna finish it.

For the most part this whole book was well written, well researched, the characters were so well fleshed out, overall I can’t find one thing to complain about.

Lana is someone I wanna know more and more of. I love how as I got into the story, we discovered how smart and multi skilled she is. I’m loving this feeling of anticipation of what’s gonna happen next and how she’s gonna make all her plans come true.

As much as I love Logan and how capable and smart he is and also how great he treat Lana, the true Main Character in this is the heroine. And I love how he is a part of her story but not her whole story. Her life does not revolve around this new romance but rather, their connection just added another layer to the awesome person that she is.

Gahh, I’m fangirling over her and I just hope the rest of the books stay as good and promising.

UM HELLO THIS WAS AMAZING AND I AM SO ANNOYED WITH MYSELF FOR NOT READING THIS SOONER. Seriously, how have I not heard of this!?!? The heroine is a serial killer torturing and killing off a list of men who wronged her in the past. But she meets an FBI profiler at a coffee shop and they hit it off and start dating. The way these two are smitten with each other is SO FREAKING ADORABLE. But he's currently investigating the case where she's literally the bad guy. The tension!!!! So good. This is dark because we get flashbacks of what happened to her and we see her torturing the men who wronger her, so be aware going in. But the ending was a cliffhanger and I am dying to pick up book two!!

... Hands down mindf*cker #1.

Insane. Unhinged. Psychotic. Lana Myers.

I fucking loved this shit! I've never expected a hundred plus pages of book would left me completely crazy for more. I liked the author's writing. I never heard of S.T. Abby before. And honestly, I'm impressed.

Lana was a serial killer. She sought revenge from the men who assaulted her and her family in the past. She met Logan in a coffee shop. Logan was an A1 FBI agent who was assigned in a mysterious murder case whom Lana was responsible for. Of course, Logan was oblivious.

They took risk. They fell for each other. They crossed a dangerous line. They made a mission impossible.

"This is for the ones who lost their voice. This is for the ones who wish they could be Lana Mvers. This is for the ones people still whisper about. This is for the ones who fight every single day to forget. You're not alone."

Why are female serial killers superior in every way?! There is something about a girl that does not let the bad guys walk away. Guys that wealth and status have always allowed to slip through the cracks. Actually, more like rolled out the red carpet with rose petals and a pat on the back.

Lana is no shrinking violet. She is an angel of death, a revenge vigilante, and a female serial killer I am rooting for. I enjoyed her inner musings and constant struggle to be a normal girl.

I stand and make things awkward, because I don’t know if I should hug him, touch him at all, or wave like an idiot. I wave like an idiot.

I’m embarrassed? Really? I didn’t know I could be embarrassed until this moment. …
Should I run and put on pants? Or will I look like an idiot who forgot to put on pants? Confident girls walk around in a T-shirt and panties all the time, right? Fucking eh.

Their taunts no longer haunt me at night. Now I dream peacefully to the sounds of their screams. Which I realize is probably psychotic.

The only problem is that the guy she’s falling for, Logan — he’s FBI. Not just any agent either, nope he’s the best profiler in the FBI. Sleepovers might be a little difficult with the possibility that he may go looking for a bathroom in the middle of the night and stumble into her secret murder room. That could be awkward and might put a damper on pillow talk.

He serves justice the best he can. I serve revenge in the way it needs to be.

I drop back down to my seat, wondering how planning out a brutal murder is easier than dating. The world is entirely too fucked up.

The banter! I absolutely adored the chemistry between Lana and Logan!

LOGAN: I really want to see you again.
ME: Well, let’s just both quit our jobs so we can finally have a date.

“Just don’t let me fuck this up, because I kinda like you,” he says, smirking at me.
Gah. All I do is grin like an idiot no matter what he says. “I kinda like you too.”

Hadley, the most talented hacker turned FBI recruit, is such a baddie. I enjoy her loyalty to Logan and hope to see more of her.

She’s FBI because it was prison or work with us.

Y’all were right! I understand the hype now. This felt like a game of chess. That ending! Talk about a cliffy. Now I have to find out what happens!

The monster never gets the prince. It’s always the sweet and innocent princess who wins.

— Time to bless this babe with a review! ✨

The Mindfuck series is, hands down, the best thriller-romance series ever! It wasn't cliché, boring, or overdone in any way. It was simply perfect, and all the plot twists were incredibly well-executed. I was deeply invested in this book, which revolves around revenge, healing, and finding love. I was in a bad slump when I read this, but it left me in a book hangover. So, I've already finished this series, and I'm just going to appreciate the characters here. NO SPOILERS.

╰┈➤ Lana Myers: 💋🩸🔪🫀

❝The monsters in here can't compare to the monster I am.❞

She's iconic! She's incredibly lovable, and even though she's a serial killer, she was so cute! 🥺 I loved her so much! She deserved all the good things and absolutely deserved a happy, perfect life with Logan! Everything she faced in the past and all her years after 'the incident' were mostly focused on overcoming her traumas, training, and plotting for revenge. She conquered it all and also found her true love in the process!

╰┈➤ Logan Bennett: 🌿🕵🏻🔪

Blonde hair and green eyes are my weakness, I swear! (My bio is proof of it.)

I loved his character! I loved how he processed everything and wholeheartedly trusted Lana. He never once thought that she might be somehow involved, and he was so gentle and protective of her that it actually made me feel all the warm fuzzies 😭 Everything he did was near perfection, although Lana did outsmart him at times, but he was a genius. He did make a mistake in the last book, hehe, but he redeemed himself! 🤝🏻

╰┈➤ THEIR RELATIONSHIP:

To be honest, their relationship started off as pure Insta-lust, but I don't care because this book is perfect AF. They met for the first time, felt a connection, and started texting each other. Gradually, they grew closer through their texts, and I adored their conversations so much! They understood each other deeply, respected each other's time, and when Logan surprised Lana by visiting her house 💞 Their relationship progressed beautifully, and they both developed a strong sense of care and passion for each other. They were super protective too! I loved them together, and they're the best!

╰┈➤ Jacob Denver:

WHY DOES NO ONE TALK ABOUT HIM? HE WAS ONE OF THE KINDEST, BEST, AND MOST AMAZING HUMANS EVER! He's a perfectly loyal, super-genius bestie! Please, I deserve a Jacob too! 😭🥺
His character doesn't receive much attention, but he truly deserves it! And I'm glad he got his own perfect ending in the last book!

Other things....

— This book is filled with many gruesome details, so please read the trigger warnings. It contains extensive detailing and mostly revolves around revenge, but THE REVENGE IS SO SWEET! 🫢

The side characters were well-developed too, and you'll love how everything was processed by the MCs serial killer - FBI brains. Everything was explained perfectly, making it easy to understand. The books aren't as long as you might think (I did too), haha! They're around 600+ pages, told in dual POVs. 🤭

— Besides the revenge plot, there was another serial killer, and you'll enjoy reading about how he was defeated! I swear, his demise was so satisfying that I relished every bit of it!

LANA MYERS is my new HERO.

She is such a strong girl that I couldn’t help but admire her.

She is a survivor.
A survivor of rape.
And not a rape by one person
but by 12 people!
Yes 12 sick fucks raped her and her brother over and over all night.
Tortured them, cut them, beat them and did all the unimaginable things to them
and in the end,
they were left to die, bleeding in the streets of the town...

How do you survive that? How do you survive that without losing your soul?

*********************************************

It took Lana Myers years and years to heal and become the fierce girl that she is now. And now she is ready to collect the debts…
One by one.
In exactly the same painful ways that they did.

She has a long list.
Not just 12 people… but all the helpers.
And the ones who stayed silent.
And also the ones who took their father away from them
by putting a blame on him – a crime that he never committed.

As I said, she has a long list!

*********************************************

While going through her list with the help of her best friend Jake, who is a technology genius, Lana meets a man – Logan. He is an FBI agent. And he is the one who is working on the serial killer case, trying to find the murderer who is torturing men and killing them in unspeakable ways.

Lana is feeling love for the first time in years and she cannot get away. She immerses herself in the pleasure and happiness Logan gives her, all the while knowing that he is a good person and will never be OK with what she is doing.

Her love for Logan grounded her in a way. He brought out the human side of her, which was necessary between all those killings so that she didn't lose her soul totally.

*********************************************

All 5 books are perfect, except for a few grammar/editing mistakes. But never mind them, these books are awesome anyways.

*********************************************

All 5 of them are told in dual point of view but one book had a third person’s point of view.

*********************************************

They are all short, around 100 pages. Only the last book is 160 pages.

These books are like an addiction. Once you start, you cannot drop them. I read them all breathless. They are so good, indeed. And it was refreshing to see the sick rapists are punished in delicious ways.

Normally, I try to avoid books that contain rape as it is too painful to read them unless they are recommended strongly by people who know me well. In this case, my dear friend Sanzida insisted that I should read this series and she said they were amazing.

I was a coward for a long time and she had to remind me more than a few times that I should pick up some courage and read them. She knows me - she knows me so well – otherwise, she would never have insisted about a book where a girl was brutally violated if she weren't so sure I would love them. So special thanks to my dear friend… I loved them lots! And I love you lots :)

*********************************************

The writer of these books is using the pen name S.T. Abby. She is the same writer who also uses the pen name C.M. Owens.

The pen name S.T. Abby fits these books very well as it reads “stabby” and Lana is definitely a stabby heroine :)

I also would like to thank the writer for printing the past memories all in italics. In this way, if you want to skip the too painful parts, you can. Personally, I surprised myself and read them all. Knowing she is also torturing them now helped me to be able to read those parts.

*********************************************

I know these books are hard to read but believe me it is worth the pain, they are amazing. She doesn’t only kill her rapists – the mindf*ckery in it is genius and so very delicious. I enjoyed every minute of it.

If you can stomach some pain, then the reward is good.

These books are so many things at the same time: painful, sad, funny, entertaining, emotional, hot, brutal, scary, twisted and much more.

*********************************************

If you want justice no matter what and if you are OK with someone handling the justice herself where justice didn’t work in normal ways, then read them. See how one tiny girl rains down vengeance for herself and her family.

The side characters in the book are very well portrayed, too. They each contribute to the story a lot. I loved Hadley and Jake fiercely. I also loved Leonard. I can say I loved the hero Logan too although I was pissed at him for a while for how he treated our girl but my real hero in this book is LANA MYERS.

RATING of all 5 books:

I am giving all books in this series 5 stars but I am deducting 0,5 point from the last book because of its ending. I didn’t like the Epilogue and how it ended.

Don’t worry, there is a happy end but there is also something I didn’t like and personally I believe that it was not necessary. Everything she did up to that moment was justified in my eyes because it was her personal revenge but I cannot tell the same for the things mentioned in the Epilogue.

I cannot say more. You’ll see yourself if you read them and decide if you like it or not. I didn't - but still, I think these books are amazing and I cannot give them anything but 5.

Here are some QUOTES from them all…

BOOK 1: THE RISK - 5 stars

I can’t help but wonder how things might have been if my past hadn’t been derailed and cluster-fucked to hell and back. I think he would have really liked the old me. I was clever, funny, quick-witted, and slightly dramatic. I also cried if I accidentally killed a bug.

Now…
Now I’m a 5’4 package of vengeance that no one sees coming.

BOOK 2: SIDETRACKED - 5 stars

“No one cared. No one wanted to listen. No one wanted to be bothered with something so horribly, inconceivably evil. They wanted to pretend it just didn’t exist.”

***

I’m his girlfriend.
I have a boyfriend.
This isn’t news, but it’s still making me gush like a thirteen-year-old who is hovering over the phone. I don’t even think about the fact he’s the guy trying to catch the killer I moonlight as.

BOOK 3: SCARLET ANGEL - 5 stars

To defeat a monster, you have to be twice as monstrous. To love a monster, you have to share your soul.

If you prick us, do we not bleed?
If you tickle us, do we not laugh?
If you poison us, do we not die?
And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?

-William Shakespeare

Shakespeare was one of the few philosophers who believed in revenge. Then again, he was a romantic. Romantics always believe in revenge, because romantics love harder, suffer loss more painfully, and hold onto a grudge that has shattered their hearts.

BOOK 4: ALL THE LIES - 5 stars

Every man is guilty of all the good he did not do.

-Voltaire

***

I grow quiet, thinking of all the contradictions this unsub has left us with. It all fits, and none of it fits at the same time.

***

As of this morning, they no longer fear the sheriff. Now they fear the one person who can break the untouchable. They belong to me now. The flock have a new shepherd to fear. Baa, bitches.

Jake was right. Logan never would have chosen me. He just proved it. He didn’t even ask. He didn’t even care.

***

The worst thing he could do is what he’s doing now. Silencing me. It was the worst part of it all. Being silenced, because no one wanted to hear. Now the one person I’ve opened myself up enough to love is silencing me.

BOOK 5 - PAINT IT ALL RED – 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 because I am deducting 0.5 point for how it ended in the Epilogue.

My mind feels like it’s gone through a mind-fuck blender. Up is down. Right is left. Good is bad.

***

“We’re claiming this town now. For your sins, you shall repent. For your past, you shall endure the nightmares you caused. And for your eyes that you closed so willingly, now you shall see.”

***

Any demon is capable of cruelty, but only an angel is majestic enough to rain down vengeance for the innocent.
