“An open Facebook page is simply a psychiatric dry erase board that screams, “Look at me. I am insecure. I need your reaction to what I am doing, but you’re not cool enough to be my friend. Therefore, I will just pray you see this because the approval of God is not all I need.”

“Don't you ever get tired of reading?" she asked. "You could hardly be called good company! Don't you know that, with women, you're supposed to make conversation?" she added; her half smile was perhaps meant to be ironic, though to Amedeo, who at that moment would have paid anything rather than give up his novel, it seemed downright threatening.”

“So I am going to run away from Faerie. Like you.'
That's not how I'd thought of myself, as a runaway. I was someone with nowhere to go. Waiting until I was older. Or less afraid. Or more powerful. 'The Prince of Elfhame can't up and disappear.'
'They'd probably be happier if I did,' he told me. 'I'm the reason my father is in exile. The reason my mother married him in the first place. My one sister and her girlfriend had to take care of me when I was little, even though they were barely more than kids themselves. My other sister almost got killed lots of times to keep me safe. Things will be easier without me around. They'll see that.'
'They won't,' I told him, trying to ignore the intense surge of envy that came with knowing he would be missed.”

“They’d sat under the starlight and shared quiet conversation and had both read together during the day, happy amidst all of nature’s splendor. On the days the urge to run away grew too strong to bear, she remembered for dear life.”

“Some people are meant to stay put, and some people are meant to go. But running is different than going. When you're running, you spend the whole time looking over your shoulder. To go forward, you gotta look forward.”
― The Kids Are Gonna Ask

“I never thought it would be hard to leave. People say it is, but to me it seemed that it was the waiting that was most difficult, the trying to keep alive something precious inside me buried so deep. Staying was killing it off for sure, no matter how hard I tried to keep it beating.”
― Where Green Meets Blue

“The actually leaving was simple, simple as jumping on our mare and racing with blind direction, but I realize now it isn’t easy. It doesn’t breath like I always thought freedom would, but instead my heart pounds so hard with fear my is mouth filling with the taste of iron.”
― Where Green Meets Blue

“Immediately as I ride the rush of wind chills my skin and twines it’s fingers into my chestnut hair, making the waves brush against my shoulders and fly behind me. Over the creekbed trees stretch and barely touch each other, as though passing a secret from one to the next. I strain my ears to hear their whispers through the leaves, but if they speak to me I don’t understand. But that’s okay, let them keep their secrets.
I have my own.”

“You ran away,' he said. 'I want to run away.'
I shifted into a more comfortable position. It wasn't that I'd run. I hadn't had anywhere else but here to go. My fingers plucked at a piece of grass. He had everything, didn't he? 'Why?' I asked again.
'Because I am tired of people trying to assassinate me.”

“Let me stay in the woods with you,' he said with a huff of breath.
I imagined it. Having him share tea with me and Mr. Fox. I could show him the places to pick the sweetest blackberries. We could eat burdock and red clover and parasol mushrooms. At night we would lie on our backs and whisper together. He would tell me about the constellations, about theories of magic, and the plots of television shows he'd seen while in the mortal world. I would tell him all the secret thoughts of my heart.
For a moment, it seemed possible.
But eventually they would come for him, the way that Lady Nore and Lord Jarel came for me. If he was lucky, it would be his sister's guards dragging him back to Elfhame. If he wasn't, it would be a knife in the dark from one of his enemies.
He did not belong here, sleeping in dirt. Scrabbling out an existence at the very edges of things.
'No,' I made myself tell him. 'Go home.'
I could see the hurt in his face. The honest confusion that came with unexpected pain.
'Why?' he asked, sounding so lost that I wanted to snatch back my words.
'When you found me tied to that stake, I thought about hurting you,' I told him, hating myself. 'You are not my friend.'
I do not want you here. Those are the words I ought to have said, but couldn't because they would be a lie.
'Ah,' he said. 'Well.'
I let out a breath. 'You can stay the night,' I blurted out, unable to resist the temptation. 'Tomorrow, you go home. If you don't, I'll use the last favour you owe me from our game to force you.
'What if I go and come back again? he asked, trying to mask his hurt.
'You won't.' When he got home, his sisters and his mother would be waiting. They would have worried when they couldn't find him. They'd make him promise never to do anything like that again. 'You have too much honour.”

“I Can't Run Away
***
I may need a psychologist
Since
I wish you could
Come, to me
Otherwise,
I wish I could
Come, to you
However,
It is impossible
Whereas,
I cannot run away,
From that thought
And it causes fatigue.”

“He ran away a lot after that, still trying to find something exciting to make life less dull. His parents always said he was never satisfied, and would never be satisfied even if he found what he was looking for. Duncan hoped that wasn't true, but he wasn't sure.
Taylor walked alongside Duncan, stepping on all of the fallen autumn leaves, and Duncan was sure it was a new song creating itself. That's how Taylor was. He heard music in the wind and in the crunch of leaves and new songs were growing out of his ears and Duncan was lost. That was it, he realized. Lost.”

“As the first ray of the vibrant sun poured in the room, her decision had been made. She would not leave things and run away anymore. She had to face the facts of life. Of course, she was not so strong to come in front of him, but she would not be an escapist either.”

“It's not selfish to run away from insult,
Better run away than retaliate with harm.
Even mindless cavemen have a right to live,
Even if they know not the worth of the sun.”

“I'd run away.
Precisely how Rhys expected me to run- how I'd told him anyone in their right mind would run from him. Like a coward, like a fool, I'd left him injured in the freezing mud.
I'd walked away from him- a day after I'd told him he was the only thing I'd never walk away from.
I'd demanded honesty, and at the first true test, I hadn't even let him give it to me. I hadn't granted him the consideration of hearing him out.
You see me.
Well, I'd refused to see him. Maybe I'd refused to see what was right in front of me.
I'd walked away.
And maybe... maybe I shouldn't have.”

“It's not necessarily bad, you know," Oshino argued, "Confronting a painful experience isn't a must. It's not like you're great just 'cause you do. If you dont feel like it, it's totally fine to run away.”
