This past month at Harper’s Bazaar, we unveiled our latest set of Icons, a collection of stars highlighted in our September issue, representing the next generation redefining what it means to make an impact. To celebrate the release of the 2024 edition, Bazaar held an intimate cocktail party on September 4, which marked the return of the annual Icons party and helped kick off New York Fashion Week.

Co-hosted by editor in chief Samira Nasr and September cover star Naomi Campbell, the fete took place at the newly reopened Le Veau d’Or on the Upper East Side. At the oldest-surviving French bistro in the city, close friends, collaborators, and members of the Bazaar team came together for an evening of delicious food and a celebration of fashion and art.

It was a star-studded affair, with guests including supermodels like Paloma Elsesser, Ashley Graham, Devyn Garcia, and Precious Lee. Another model and viral influencer, Nara Smith, was also in attendance, and made it a date night with her husband, Lucky Blue. In one sweet moment, Smith—who is the queen of “making things from scratch”—asked TV personality Martha Stewart for a selfie. We’ll call it the Gen Z Martha meeting the original.

As for other stars in attendance, musician Solange and actors Taylour Paige and Tracee Ellis Ross were among the guests, while Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne stopped by later in the night. A few celebrated artists held court in the restaurant, too, including Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald.

On the fashion side of things, a number of high-profile designers made an appearance right before debuting their latest collections, including Tory Burch, Willy Chavarria, Wes Gordon, Gabriela Hearst, Michael Kors, Lazaro Hernandez, Adam Lippes, Christopher John Rogers, and Jack McCullough. CEOs, VPs, and other executives from some of the largest luxury brands in the world made a point to visit the soirée as well.

It was an evening of communion, talking fashion, art, politics, and more while passing around scrumptious sandwiches and crispy french fries (for which the Frenchette Group, which owns Le Veau d’Or, is well known). The evening marked another eventful chapter in the Harper’s Bazaar history book, and felt like the perfect launch for the latest NYFW. Check out all the best photos from the party below.
