Fans have a reason to say “thank u” to Ariana Grande, as she just announced her next album will drop sooner rather than later.
Eternal Sunshine, the pop singer’s seventh studio album, will be out from Republic Records on March 8. The news comes more than three years after her last full-length release, 2020’s Positions.
Ahead, everything to know about her upcoming record.
When is the release date?
Eternal Sunshine is due out on March 8, 2024.
Grande has already released the album’s lead single—house-inspired dance anthem “Yes, And?”—and its music video. Written and produced by Grande, with Max Martin and Ilya Salmanzadeh, the track debuted at no. 1 on the Spotify Global Chart, for her biggest Spotify debut ever. It also debuted at no. 1 on the Apple Music Top 100 Global chart. On February 16, the singer also released a “Yes, And?” remix featuring Mariah Carey.
What about the cover art?
Eternal Sunshine’s cover is a blurry close-up of Grande’s face. The photo shows the singer in her signature black eyeliner and a bold red lip. Little else can be gleaned from the photo; Grande appears to be wearing a plain gold earring.
On Instagram, she shared other photos that appeared to be from the same shoot. In front of a brown background, she is posing in a white button-up blouse with a Peter Pan collar and sheer red gloves.
Grande took to Instagram again to share four “exclusive” alternative covers: “Exclusive cover no. 1” shows Grande posing with her eyes closed, holding her French-manicured hands at her forehead and wearing the same sheer red gloves to match her vibrant lips and a white Peter Pan–collared T-shirt. The second cover depicts Grande from the back, with her hair swept up in her signature high ponytail, resting her head on the shoulder of what appears to be another version of herself.
Cover number three is a compilation of 12 black-and-white photos of herself in different poses wearing a red mock-neck work dress, sheer red tights, and matching pointed-toe stilettos, all overlaid with a hazy red tint. And exclusive cover no. 4 captures Grande in the same outfit sitting on a tan couch in a dark room, a beam of light coming through a window.
Has the track list been revealed?
Yes. Grande unveiled the titles of nine of its 13 songs in an Instagram post:
- intro (end of the world)
- bye
- don’t wanna break up again
- Saturn Returns Interlude
- eternal sunshine
- supernatural
- true story
- the boy is mine
- yes, and?
- we can’t be friends (wait for your love)
- i wish i hated you
- imperfect for you
- ordinary things (feat. Nonna)
She teased the album on social media.
On December 27, the “God Is a Woman” singer teased new music with a carousel of images and videos posted to Instagram, tagging producer Salmanzadeh and Republic Records, among other users. She captioned the post, “see you next year ♡”.
Grande included a selfie in which she is crying in a recording studio, and a video of herself lying on a couch while the person filming asks, “Is this almost the last day of this album?” The pop star responds, “I’m so tired but so happy and grateful.” She also shared flicks of care packages from her R.E.M. Beauty brand, including lipsticks, and postcards boasting a close-up of her own red lips—which fans speculated at the time, apparently correctly, could be cover art.
Grande went on to repost one of the images to her Story, writing: “the two moods of the album.”
This was the third time Grande had alluded to the new project on Instagram. She first excited fans by uploading a collection of photos and videos of herself in the studio on December 7, then again with a compilation of short clips on December 17. Given that this third photo dump graced her 380 million followers’ feeds on December 27, the number seven may hold some kind of significance for Eternal Sunshine.
