Sarah Michelle Gellar was the star of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" but the cult series really was an ensemble show — especially as it went on. The main characters in "Buffy" grew from the titular slayer and her "Scoobies" to an extensive cast of beloved favorites who became just as integral to the show's success and its enduring status as one of the great TV shows of the late-'90s/early aughts.
In that sense, it's not surprising that while Gellar was the lead, there were several other cast members who appeared in almost as many episodes as the star herself. Across seven seasons and 144 episodes, Buffy was joined most frequently by her close friends Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan) and Xander Harris (Nicholas Brendon) — the original Scooby gang. Then, there was her Watcher, Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head), Scooby adoptee Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter), and "big bad"-turned ally Spike (James Marsters). All these characters,...

Soap Operas often have storylines featuring sick or dying children. Currently, The Young and the Restless is wrapping up Connor Newman’s Ocd storyline, and Faith’s kidney transplant has recently been mentioned. General Hospital had two unborn babies die in the past many months. Days of our Lives also featured Chanel losing her baby after big worries over radiation problems. On The Bold and the Beautiful, Hope, panicked when Beth got sick earlier this summer. Here are a few more sick kid storylines that have popped up on daytime over the years, and a lot of times, these stories end up fizzling out. Here are a few of them.

The 21st century has seen any number of films about the stories people tell themselves in order to rationalize and reconfigure their trauma, but none have been more raw or powerfully true to life than “Mysterious Skin.”
Nineties indie icon Gregg Araki took great risk in adapting Scott Heim’s 1995 novel, the story of a teen hustler who, drawn exclusively to older men as an adult, comes to terms with the fact that his Little League coach groomed and raped him as a child over one summer in 1981 Kansas, and how his sexual behavior later in the ’90s was shaped by those encounters as a result. While Neil McCormack (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) engages in reckless sexual activity, elsewhere a fellow teammate, Brian Lackey (Brady Corbet), who was also abused by the same coach, retreats...

Created by Danilo Bach and Daniel Petrie Jr., the first film in the franchise came out in 1984, and now, with the fourth film coming out nearly thirty years after the third and the worst film in the franchise came out, the hype for the franchise and its iconic theme song is back on the top. So, if you loved Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, here are some more great action comedy films you could watch next.

Heart-wrenching horror.

Fans of Michelle Trachtenberg, known for her Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl roles, expressed concern for the actor’s well-being after a recent social media post with Spy Kids star Alexa PenaVega.
The post on Instagram was captioned “These kids…. now adults getting our roots/hair done! Love this girl @vegaalexa.”
Some fans took their thoughts to the comment section immediately, noting Trachtenberg’s paler-than-usual skin, and “jaundiced” eyes. The influx of messages over the actor’s “sick” appearance caused her to lash out.
“Explain to me how I look sick,” Trachtenberg responded. “Did you lose a calendar and not realize I’m not 14. I’m 38. How sad for you to leave such a comment.”
The fan who commented on Trachtenberg looking ill promptly responded, apologizing and reiterating that she meant “no disrespect” and was simply concerned for her.
That same day, she shared yet another selfie in response to all the criticism.

Legendary country star Dolly Parton was an uncredited executive producer on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series, as the show came from her production company Sandollar Productions, which she co-founded with her former manager, Sandy Gallin. So if there’s anyone who should have an idea of what’s going on with the Buffy reboot that was announced some years back, it’s Dolly – and she said it’s still in the works.
Five and a half years have gone by since it was announced that a reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was in development with Monica Owusu-Breen, co-creator of the TV show Midnight, Texas, writing, executive producing, and serving as showrunner. It was said that the new show would be “contemporary, building on the mythology of the original”. It's safe to say the early aughts WB series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was a smash hit — among other accolades, it produced a five-season spin-off, "Angel," and launched several storied careers, including that of its controversial creator, Joss Whedon. A few of the "Buffy" characters returned in "Angel" after departing from "Buffy," including the British Watcher Wesley and Sunnydale High's resident mean girl Cordelia. Even Spike, who was killed off in the "Buffy" series finale, returned for the final season of the spin-off. However, not all of the cast members were so keen on reprising their roles after the original series ended.
Emma Caulfield stars in "Buffy" as the minor character Anya, a wish-granting vengeance demon who is turned back into a human and forced to attend high school where she falls in love with Buffy's hapless human sidekick, Xander. She became a recurring character in season 3 before falling into...

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" introduced a bevy of incredible characters, but not all of them got the same amount of love and attention. Some characters, like Spike (James Marsters), were supposed to be killed off instantly but stayed on the show because the audience would have rioted if he died. Others, like Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg), were absolutely instrumental to the narrative but totally hated by the show's fans.
Not only did "Buffy" buffs despise the Slayer's younger sister, but the writers also had trouble effectively working her into the show. Dawn was memorably introduced in season 5 under mystical circumstances but, in the final two seasons, she was left to her own devices as a regular teenage girl. The character re-introduced the coming-of-age themes at the show's high school roots, but her lack of powers and combat experience also made her far less exciting than most of the other characters.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was once the most progressive show on television, so how is it possible that someone with a long history of mistreating women could create a long-standing feminist masterpiece? Series creator Joss Whedon was once at the top of the world of superhero fans and comic book nerds, many of whom fell in love with his beautiful blonde avatar, Buffy, a demon-fighting highschooler with superhuman strength and agility. The show's heroine was a uniquely powerful depiction of a ditzy Valley girl, turning the then-contemporary damsel-in-distress archetype on its head. But we've since learned that, behind the scenes, Whedon was doing everything he could to make the women of the show feel powerless.

Twenty years after audiences watched Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) slay her last demon, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is set to return with a multiverse-style sequel. The new story won't be a TV show, but an audio series called "Slayers: A Buffyverse Story" -- a format switch that, while perhaps less common than a straightforward revival series, has been done successfully before by at least one other big fandom genre show, "Orphan Black."
There are a lot of reasons worth getting excited about "Slayers." Eight original series cast members are returning for the new project, including Emma Caulfield Ford (Anya), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia), Anthony Head (Giles), James Marsters (Spike), and more. Amber Benson is also returning despite her character Tara's controversial death in season 6 of the original show -- apparently the new series will play with alternate realities, allowing her character's reappearance. Plus, "Slayers" seems to be listening to...

If you've ever seen a list of the spookiest "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" episodes, you've probably seen installments such as "Nightmares" or "Buffy vs. Dracula" regularly cropping up. It also seems that fans are pretty much united in their view that the scariest episode of "Buffy" is "Hush."
There's no doubt those grinning villains, known only as "The Gentlemen," were a powerful image, and perhaps the most iconic antagonists of the entire series. The concept of the episode, too, is pretty unsettling, with all the residents of Sunnydale losing their voices, leaving them unable to scream as The Gentlemen go about their diabolical mission of extracting human hearts.
But there's one episode of "Buffy" that remains truly haunting in a way that "Hush," or any episode for that matter, never quite was. This one doesn't necessarily have a memorable villain, but it's about as creepy an episode of the show as you'll ever see.

With “Dancing with the Stars” set to come back for a 32nd season this fall on ABC after spending last year on Disney+, there’s a long list of celebrities who deserve to compete on the dance floor. Two of my previous suggestions came true: Frankie Muniz (who came in third in season 25) and Kel Mitchell (who came in second in season 28). Below is a list of female stars I think the show should consider inviting to the ballroom to vie for the next Mirror Ball Trophy. Do you agree with my picks? Vote in our poll at the bottom of this post to let us know which you’d most like to see on “DWTS.” And feel free to let us know in the comments what other stars you would like to see when the show comes back in September.

Disney’s 2003 version of Freaky Friday almost looked very different.
Annette Bening and Michelle Trachtenberg were first cast as mother and daughter in the remake of the 1977 film that saw Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster switching bodies on Friday the 13th. But Trachtenberg couldn’t get out of her commitment to shoot Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Bening dropped out shortly before production began.
Producer Andrew Gunn recalls that Nina Jacobson, then president of Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group, happened to see Jamie Lee Curtis in True Lies on TV and suggested her for the updated role of the therapist mom Tess, who gets trapped in the body of her teenage daughter Anna, an aspiring musician, after they each open a magical fortune cookie.
And while Lindsay Lohan’s audition for the part of Anna hadn’t been stellar, she had already proved herself in Disney’s 1998 remake of The Parent Trap.

Alyson Hannigan was brilliant in the role of Willow Rosenberg on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series, which ran for a total of seven seasons and 144 episodes, beginning in 1997 and wrapping up in 2003… But she didn’t join the show until the pilot was reshot, replacing the previously cast Riff Regan as Willow. And during an interview with Shut Up Evan, Melanie Lynskey confirmed that she was also a potential Willow.
Interviewer Evan Ross Katz had been told by Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar that the show’s creator Joss Whedon had envisioned Lynskey (only known from Heavenly Creatures at the time) as Willow when he was writing the pilot script, but Lynskey, who is from New Zealand, couldn’t audition because there was an issue with her visa. Katz asked Lynskey about that and she replied, “It is basically true. It was kind of a visa issue, but...

Michelle Trachtenberg is returning to her roots with a voice role in Apple TV+‘s Harriet the Spy Season 2. TV Insider has the exclusive first look at her character in the clip above. Trachtenberg played the titular child spy in the 1996 film of the same name. In Season 2, Trachtenberg voices Dr. Wagner, Harriet’s new psychiatrist that her parents recommend she talks to while she’s going through many life changes. In the new episodes, debuting May 5 on the streamer, Harriet’s nanny, Ole Golly, is around less and Harriet had a recent incident at school when her peers and friends read things that she said about them in her notebook. Harriet’s investigative, inquisitive nature is on full display in her session with Dr. Wagner. When the psychiatrist hands her a composition notebook (Harriet’s kryptonite), the kid can’t help but accept it, no matter how much her...

Growing up in England, I hadn't realized that "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was a WB show. I used to watch it on BBC 2 -- at 6:45 pm right after "The Simpsons" -- but in retrospect, it makes some sense that it came from the same U.S. channel that gave us "One Tree Hill."
The thing is, aside from the horror element often being genuinely frightening, there was a maturity to the storytelling in "Buffy," and a persistent undercurrent of profound tragedy that I just didn't associate with WB teen dramas. The harm and heartache that befall Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) throughout the show are pretty relentless, and mostly a result of something she had no say in — being the slayer. As such, every season was infused with this lingering sense of tragedy that made the show much more than an excuse for teen melodrama — though, there was plenty of that,...

Sarah Michelle Gellar is back in the spotlight after a few years of relative silence. Her new series Wolf Pack is making big waves. The actor, who became a cultural icon after the popularity of her ’90s breakout Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has remained closely associated with the series over the years, with many fans turning to her to set the record straight regarding the show’s controversies. Still, there’s one incident that Gellar is planning to keep her silence on — and that’s the scandal involving Buffy creator Joss Whedon, who was the target of some very concerning allegations.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is remembered for many things: transcending genre, witty dialogue, creating one of TV's greatest female icons, and complex plot lines built on monstrous metaphors, to name a few. These days, creator Joss Whedon may be best known for his abusive behavior on set, but there was a time when his feminist credentials seemed unimpeachable. Despite the revelations about Whedon's actions, his magnum opus remains my favorite series of all time. Although my relationship with the show may be a bit more complicated now, I will never love it any less.
Whedon plotted out "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" seasons well in advance and there are allusions to upcoming storylines scattered throughout the series. One particularly fascinating trail of breadcrumbs leads directly to the death of our hero, Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar). The character was killed off in one of the show's best episodes, the season 5 finale "The Gift,...

Sarah Michelle Gellar will always be Buffy Summers to many, and while she’s proud of the show and its legacy, she would rather Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s legacy not be tainted by Joss Whedon. Whedon has been under serious scrutiny over the past few years for allegations of on-set harassment and hosting unprofessional workplace environments.
In a recent Hollywood Reporter profile, Sarah Michelle Gellar said, “I’ve come to a good place with it, where it’s easier to talk about…I’ll never tell my full story because I don’t get anything out of it. I’ve said all I’m going to say because nobody wins. Everybody loses.” The profile writer noted that Sarah Michelle Gellar didn’t mention Joss Whedon by name when referring to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Gossip Girl's comeback is being cut short by HBO Max.
The streaming service has canceled the reboot after two seasons.
The series finale, titled "I Am Gossip," will premiere on January 26 on HBO Max.
Showrunner Joshua Safran took to Twitter to reveal the sad news.
“So here’s the goss: it is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce Gossip Girl will not be continuing on HBO Max,” the social media statement reads.
Safran goes on to thank everyone associated with the show.
“The EPs and I will forever be grateful to the network and studio for their faith and support; the writers for their devious brains and dexterous talent; the superstar cast for being the greatest of collaborators and friends; and the crew for their hard work, dedication and love for the project."
"This was honestly the greatest set I ever worked on, top to bottom.

NYC’s messiest Instagram account is typing its “XOXOs” for the last time. “Gossip Girl,” the HBO Max series and sequel to the CW hit of the same name, has been canceled, the streamer announced Thursday. The news comes in the middle of the show’s Season 2 run, which began on December 1 and will conclude January 26.
In a tweet Thursday, showrunner and executive producer Joshua Safran stated he intends to shop “Gossip Girl” to other outlets.
“We are currently looking for another home, but in this climate, that might prove an uphill battle, and so if this is the end, at least we went out on the highest of highs,” Safran wrote in his tweet.
The series, which premiered in July 2021 to considerable hype, is a continuation of the original 2007 series of the same name created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Based on the young adult series by Cecily von Ziegesar,...

Hey, Upper Eastsiders: HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” has been canceled, and its series finale will drop on the streamer Jan. 26.
Season 1 premiered in July of 2021, and though it received a critics’ score of 38 on Rotten Tomatoes, Variety‘s Caroline Framke praised it, writing the show “does immediately address one issue that plagued the previous ‘Gossip Girl’ by flipping it on its head in a way that energizes the new one. This time, there will be no guessing games as to who Gossip Girl might be — at least not for the audience.” Season 2 jumped higher on Rotten Tomatoes, but based on fewer reviews.
“We are very grateful to showrunner/executive producer Joshua Safran, and executive producers Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz for bringing us back to the Upper East Side and all the scandals at Constance Billard,” HBO Max said in a statement. “Although we are not moving forward with...

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" isn't a show for the faint of heart. Throughout its seven seasons, the characters go through some of the most horrific experiences imaginable -- coping with grief, loss, loneliness, and every existential problem under the sun. Despite its supernatural settings, the series wonderfully grounds these experiences in a recognizable reality.
The Sarah Michelle Gellar-starring series is a high school coming-of-age tale and a supernatural drama. Buffy (Gellar) and the rest of the Scooby Gang spend most episodes fighting off some non-human threat to their town while dealing with typical high school problems -- homework, school dances, dating, and the like.
This same parity applies to the tragedies of "Buffy." Yes, the death of a loved one at the hands of supernatural forces is sad, but so is your boyfriend breaking up with you before prom. As Buffy once told Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg) just before her most heroic act,...

We are living in an age of TV show revivals. By the end of this month, Night Court will even be back on the air. But don’t get your hopes up for a revival of Buffy the Vampire Slayer that would bring Sarah Michelle Gellar back in the title role. While speaking with SFX Magazine (via Movieweb), Gellar said she wouldn’t want to play Buffy ever again.
When asked if she’s interested in reprising the role, Gellar answered, “I’m not. I am very proud of the show that we created and it doesn’t need to be done. We wrapped that up. I am all for them continuing the story, because there’s the story of female empowerment. I love the way the show was left: ‘Every girl who has the power can have the power.’ It’s set up perfectly for someone else to have the power.

What is the best television series of all time? Some argue the merits of how "The Wire" exposed the hypocrisy of the Baltimore drug war in Baltimore; others point to the villainous evolution of Walter White in "Breaking Bad." Choose to debate this topic endlessly, and there will still only be one, true answer: "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," for all its faults and unsavory associations, is the best TV series ever made. Running seven seasons (and five more in comic book form), "Buffy" had it all: vampires, slayers, spells, werewolves, a hellmouth, high school trials and tribulations, college jocks that were secretly androids, evil Mayors, and Giles!
"Buffy" also boasted one of the best casts in all of network television, featuring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, David Boreanaz, Charisma Carpenter, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Marsters, Anthony Head -- and last but not least, Nicholas Brendon. In the age of "Friends," there...

Sarah Michelle Gellar, known for her leading role as Buffy in Buffy the Vampire, is speaking out about toxicity on the set of the series.
“For so long, I was on a set that I think was known for being an extremely toxic male set,” she told the Power of Storytelling: Producers Roundtable in Los Angeles. “So that was ingrained in my head that that was what all sets were like, and that women were pitted against each other — that if women became friends, then we became too powerful, so you had to keep that down.”
“Now that I’ve had this opportunity to work with so many more women and men that support women as well, I realized how easy an experience it can be,” she added. “Unfortunately we’re still in that place where all of those departments a lot of times need to be women for us to have a voice.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is one of the best TV shows of all time, but by this point, the Joss Whedon series is as infamous as it is famous. The seven-season coming-of-age series is about finding family and support as much as it is about slaying vamps, so it's always hard to reconcile the show fans loved with the hypocritical behaviors apparently on display on set.
In the years since the show has ended, several actors and colleagues have spoken up about alleged mistreatment from Whedon. Charisma Carpenter, who played mean girl Cordelia, released a statement alleging that the series writer-creator was "casually cruel" to her on several occasions, especially with regards to her pregnancy. Spotted: there's a new "Gossip Girl" queen bee on the rise, and she's wasting no time kicking off her hostile takeover. Haven't you heard? "Gossip Girl" is back for another chaotic season on HBO Max, and we've got all the deets.
The first season ends with a disastrous New Year's Eve celebration that leaves Julien (Jordan Alexander) cleaning up a major mess with her ex Obie (Eli Brown) and sister Zoya (Whitney Peak). Not to mention, the will-they-won't-they throuple with Aki (Evan Mock), Audrey (Emily Alyn Lind), and Max (Thomas Doherty) finally get the green light (though it surely won't be smooth sailing for them). The biggest surprise of them all, however - aside from Gossip Girl teaming up with Julien to expose everyone's dirty little secrets - is Monet (Savannah Lee Smith) gunning for the queen bee title now that Julien has turned over a new leaf, but there are plenty more shocking reveals ahead in season two, so buckle up for the ride.

“Essentially what would happen in the first Gossip Girl was the first half of the season would be, ‘These kids are disasters and they’re destroying each other.’ And in the second half of every season, we know the reason is because of their parents,” Safran said, explaining that the two-season story arc is mirrored after one,...

After successfully standing out as a worthwhile reboot, HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” must now contend with continuing the new story it’s set while continuing to appeal to fans of the original show. Naturally, the comparisons to the original series remain, as the mythology gets deeper and success allows the continuity bridge to be gapped even more. But with Season 2 it’s a balancing act, as the show’s success allows for things like Michelle Trachtenberg’s return as original series antagonist Georgina Sparks but can also lead to the series potentially relying too much on the past instead of its present and future.
While “Gossip Girl” has been a continuation from moment one — still very much in the same world as the original series, just within a 2020s, social media-obsessed, Zoomer world — there’s an obvious difference between having Eleanor Waldorf, Cyrus Rose, Dorota, and Vanya showing up...

You know you love Georgina Sparks.
Michelle Trachtenberg is back as iconic villain Georgina in Season 2 of HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” revival series. The new Gg, Kate (Tavi Gevinson), comes face to face with Og baddie Georgina after she sneaks into her apartment for a moment of reckoning. As Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good” plays in the background, it’s clear Season 2 will be a battle to the social death.
The role marks Trachtenberg’s return to acting after four years, following her voice-acting turn in TV series “Human Kind Of.” Her last on-camera role was in 2016 TV movie “Sister Cities.” Trachtenberg formerly played Georgina a decade ago, with her final “Gossip Girl” appearance in 2012. The character’s son, Milo, played by Azhy Robertson, appeared in the first season of the new “Gossip Girl” as the hacker Zoya (Whitney Peak) hires to take down her...

Gossip Girl is back on HBO Max for Season 2 in December, and the sparks are ready to fly. The streamer released a new trailer that gives a first glimpse of a beloved villain from the original Gossip Girl series, Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg). In the trailer, Manhattan’s young and wealthy are seen scheming, cheating, lying, and fighting while Gossip Girl narrates the drama over Amy Winehouse’s chilling “You Know I’m No Good.” At the end, Georgina appears, having apparently broken into Audrey’s (Emily Alyn Lind) home. (Credit: HBO Max) “Did you know that you have four weak points of entry and a very pliable super?” Georgina menacingly tells her, in the trailer, above. The logline for Season 2 gives a hint at exactly what we can look forward to in the upcoming season: It’s the second semester of Junior year, and Gossip Girl is leaving no...

Gossip Girl Season 2 looks like the show we were promised ahead of its debut last year.
HBO Max dropped the official trailer on Thursday, and it looks more scandalous than ever.
The original series was known for its Omg-worthy moments, and if the trailer is any indication, there'll be plenty to go around in the second season.
“It’s the second semester of junior year and Gossip Girl is leaving no stone unturned in her effort to control the scandalous lives or spin the scandalous lies of Manhattan’s elite,” the official logline reads.
“She’s learned a thing or two from her first go-around — namely what her audience wants, they shall get."
"It’s time for her to turn the heat up on what’s been simmering as well as look at her own impact and how she can make it more catastrophic than it was before. Even if...
