Gossip Girl‘s OG queen of mean made her long-awaited return to the Upper East Side on Thursday — and she came bearing gifts![pmc_inline_gallery]
More specifically, Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg) delivered key intel on two of the original series’ major players, Dan (Penn Badgley) and Serena (Blake Lively). And what better place to do it than the couple’s apartment, where a kidnapped Kate awoke wearing one of Serena’s signature dresses.
“Brooklyn Heights? I’d rather be back at Jesus camp than be caught dead here,” Georgina told her well-dressed prisoner. “This is Dan and Serena’s house. They fired their staff when they thought someone was breaking in. At first they thought it was the doorman, but when they kept coming home to this, they put up cameras everywhere. I had my son loop the image, so now they’re bringing in a paranormal expert. They have no idea I’m their poltergeist. [I’ve been doing this for] five or six years. At first it was small annoyances — taking a sock or two, turning the heat down. But then I wanted a little more fun, like replacing the oat milk with full dairy. Their kid’s lactose intolerant. They’ve seen every specialist, and no one knows what’s wrong.”
(So there you have it: Dan and Serena, who famously swapped vows in the original series finale, are still going strong — and they have a little Gossip Baby of their own!)
Georgina then coerced Kate into sabotaging Max’s dads’ vow renewal ceremony, which turned out to be merely a test. As she explained in the episode’s final moments, Georgina’s mission to “f–k s–t up” is only just beginning, whether Kate plays along willingly or not.
Of course, Georgina wasn’t the only character from the original series to appear this week. We also caught up with Nelly Yuki (Yin Chang), who is now the youngest deputy editor in the history of New York Magazine. She previously popped up in a Season 1 episode of HBO Max‘s reboot.
Was Georgina’s much-hyped arrival everything you hoped it would be? Drop a comment with your thoughts on Season 2, Episode 6 below.
Might still be a controversial opinion, but I always thought Dan and Blair made a better couple. Their build-up was far more interesting than Dan and Serena’s constant back and forth. But it’s kinda sweet to hear they’ve found some peace now – Georgina antics aside.
I feel like Dan and Blair are becoming a more popular pairing every year, particularly as people rewatch the OG show as adults and are drawn to the romcom antics of Dan and Blair instead of the childish toxicity of the endgame pairings. Also, Chuck isn’t aging well in a post MeToo world, so that definitely has some weight…
Was he really aging well in a pre MeToo world though?
No he wasn’t, but more and more people who were hardcore Chair fans at the time have begun to see the light.
But my god the way some people leap to defend that dirty man is mind blowing.
Not Chair. Bluck.
Agreed, I thought Dan was better with Blair and that Serena should have been sent off alone to mope about life.
Just wanna say I agree with you about Dan and Blair. They were the perfect opposites attract. I was never a Chuck fan.
Completely agree with you. I really liked Dan and Blair, they meshed well. Though glad Serena and Dan are still together.
Georgina’s return was GLORIOUS! A pure agent of chaos, so rich and entitled that her only enjoyment is still to mess with people’s lives, exactly where I expected her to be after all these years! I hope we’ll get much more of her in this season and beyond
Frankly, I’m disappointed. The show ended with Georgina having made some bit of growth to where she’s not screwing with people every second of every day. Especially when she’s actually become friends with them, to some extent. She was at their wedding, for crying out loud, and she’s screwing with their kid’s health.
I’m fine with Dan and Serena being married! You can’t be having an affair with your wife’s best friend if you aren’t married! #dairaffair
Ew. Could you just not?
Sorry! I just feel so bad that Blair is married to that ab*sive monster Chucky Fish, so I choose to believe that she’s found some sort of happiness having an affair with her soulmate 🤷♂️
But seriously, have you rewatched the show recently? Because Chuck is far, far worse than I remembered and it’s actually devastating that Blair ends up married to him.
Dan is just as bad, if not worse because him and his sister think they’re holier than everyone else. Dan literally writes nasty things about everyone and gets away with it. They all forgive him and welcome him into their circle time and time again.
And yes, I’m rewatching season 2 right now and Dan is worse than I remembered.
Sorry but I don’t think anything Dan did, even including that ridiculous last episode twist, is worse than Chuck being a literal multiple-r*pist who sells Blair for a building and commits domestic violence. Chuck is a monster, while Dan just ran an anonymous Gossip blog.
Being a hypocrite isn’t worse than being Chuck Bass.
“Ran an anonymous gossip blog” is one way to put it. Another way is that he terrorized the people closest to him for years and years. He alter their lives and the trajectories of their futures in ways that can’t be undone or overstated, and he did it because he was too neurotic to talk to a rich girl he thought was cute.
Chuck is a literal criminal, though. So you might have a point. think Blair and Serena should have moved o a beach house and hung out like Grace Frankie.
Just reading this recap made me laugh! Georgina is one of the best characters on TV and so glad she’s back
OK, is just me or… “Georgina” and “Kate” were barely in the same scene at the same time. I think I’m going insane, but soooo many “behind shoulder” shots and “in your face reaction shots”. Almost EVERY scene is lile that and that was weird
They didn’t film those scenes together, and were using body Doubles I believe.
“But then I wanted a little more fun, like replacing the oat milk with full dairy. Their kid’s lactose intolerant.” Wow, what a cute little rascal that (fully adult woman in her late 30s) Georgina is. Making someone’s baby sick as a joke is TIGHT!
Youre not supposed to support Georginas actions lol shes a pure villain… are you new here?
New where? I understand she’s a villain, duh… but we’re supposed to find her antics fun, but I don’t.
Don’t forget the part where she harped on it making no sense that Dan was original GG! It would’ve been better to just have been some random lurker not a major ‘omg it was _____’!
And I agree it should’ve been Dan and Blair. Maybe they could learn from Aki Audrey and Max and be a throuple.
Nah the thruple is lame AF. Trying to be shocking for the sake of being shocking, but they’re boring AF.
But Dan, Blair and Serena don’t have to be a boring throuple!
Too bad the reboot was cancelled. I heard that Blair is divorced long ago and has new husband though. I don’t know how true is that but no surprise. We know Dan and Serena are still married and happy. But we don’t know about the rest. We don’t know about Blair or Chuck or Nate or any other characters.
Also in the book, Blair and Chuck wasn’t even the endgame.
