Katie joined the Disney Channel movie production team in 2002 after a
15-year career in feature film , starting as a production coordinator
on John Waters' " Hairspray " in her home state of Maryland, through
Barry Levinson's "Avalon" and "Toys", to Disney's "Bicentennial Man." Katie also produced an independent feature and a short film, and
worked as a production supervisor on several movies and extensive
reshoots. She started her media career in New York at a small
production company, and then went on to work with Walter Cronkite
during a six-month tour in Western Australia on the "Walter Cronkite
America's Cup Report" during the 1986/1987 America's Cup sailing
competition.
In 2003, Katie began working on Disney Channel series, and in April 2005, her responsibilities shifted to ABC Family series as the network launched its first round of scripted pilots. Katie has been part of the management team transitioning the network from acquisitions to original programming. Relevant, signature series include the college life dramedy "Greek," teen drama hit "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," urban family drama "Lincoln Heights" (nominated for three NAACP Image awards), "Kyle XY," "Wildfire," and "Fallen." As the lead production executive for the network, Katie's oversight encompasses scheduling pilot and production seasons, hiring of producers and other key staff, management of production budgets and cost reporting, and developing an overall production strategy for the network that establishes a template for a high level of production value on a cable budget.
