Miscast, terrible adaption. The book is a quiet gem that we reread year after year. This adaption uses the same character names and locations and nothing else. It's as though the screen writer flipped through the chapters then ran wild. The town ofCregan? Mr & Mrs Snead? The Major? Elfrida's painting & clock? All important parts of a slow drama that brings you inside and makes you care about the characters. Sam? Was a kind, caring person in the book. Oscar, heartbroken but a gentle person. The Countess was an addition that only added more bad feelings to the group. Carrie was sad in the book with a broken heart, not crying spoiled lump. Music was dull and boring. Oscar's life was music but there's none in this film. Only Horace the dog's character was close to true. And even his one big scene from the book was rewritten and spoiled the meeting of Lucy & Rory. Setting up those two to be friends with a little crush on Lucy's side.
Yes, the actors are fine actors but they had nothing to work with. Search out "Oliver's Travels" and watch Ms. Cusack in that instead!
