There’s a lot about James Gunn’s DC universe (colloquially known as the “Gunnverse”) we don’t know, but what’s becoming rapidly apparent is that it’ll give some lesser-known characters from the DC library a chance to shine. Case in point: news just broke of a Sgt. Rock movie in development. The curveball with this one is that Sgt. Rock isn’t really a superhero. He was invented at a time when the offerings of an average mass-market comic book company were a bit more diverse: in addition to superhero content, they published westerns, romance, funny cartoon animals, and military action dramas — Sgt. Rock belongs to that last category. He’s a macho GI Joe type built to satisfy the violence cravings of late 50s and early 60s boys. Despite DC’s output becoming mostly superhero-based eventually, Sgt. Rock has returned multiple times throughout the decades. In...

Uncanny X-Men was undoubtedly the best comic book of the week. It was a shining example of amazing writing (Gail Simone) and artwork (David Marquez) coming together to deliver the absolute best combination imaginable. It was so good that it deserved its own article (you can read it here).
But Uncanny X-Men wasn’t the only comic book worth reading. This week, Marvel and Skybound / Image Comics dominated the best of the week. And thus, let's dive into them!

From 2005 to 2022, Idw Publishing held the "Transformers" comic license. When it was announced they were losing the license, fans felt uncertain; "Transformers" had been in Idw's hands for so long, so why not stay the course?
Change can be a great thing, though, and new "Transformers" publisher Skybound Entertainment is already making the most of the Robots in Disguise. Skybound's foremost publishing initiative is the "Energon Universe" — a setting combining "Transformers," "G.I. Joe," and Kirkman's original science-fiction title "Void Rivals." The ongoing "Transformers" comic written by Daniel Warren Johnson kicked off this new universe and remains its crown jewel so far.
"Transformers" #1, published on October 4, 2023, was the best-selling comic issue of that year; it's currently gone to 10th printing. Since it began, "Transformers" has only fallen out of the top 10 best-selling comic series once. This past month of October...

Jon M. Chu has admitted a second ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ probably won’t happen. The 45-year-old director helmed the rom-com - which is an adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s satirical 2013 novel of the same name - in 2018, and although there is much clamour for a follow-up, Chu insists it is unlikely because he is yet to find “a script that’s better and has as much urgency as the first movie”.In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Chu said: “There are a lot of questions about ‘Crazy Rich Asians 2’ . I always promised the cast, I will not bring them back unless we get a script that’s better and has as much urgency as the first movie. And I think we just haven’t gotten there yet.“The first movie, even though people think, ‘It’s like the book, so the second book should fit in’, it’s actually not.

Jon M. Chu is probably a name you’ve heard of, if not earlier, than recently, as he is the director of the upcoming two-part movie Wicked, which is based on the successful stage musical. The movie has attracted a lot of media attention and we have yet to see how good it is, but that is a topic for a different article.
Aside from his work on Wicked, Chu has also worked on several other major or otherwise popular projects and one of his earlier ones was the 2013 film G.I. Joe: Retaliation, his third standalone film and the first one not to be connected to the Step-Up franchise.
Retaliation was not received well by the critics, but it was considered an improvement, and it grossed $375.7 million worldwide against a budget of $130–155 million, which was a solid result for such a movie.

Was Chris Hemsworth almost broke before Thor? ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia )
Picture this: a young Chris Hemsworth, barely scraping by and dreaming of stardom, desperate to rescue his family from financial chaos. Fast forward, and he’s now the God of Thunder, but the journey was anything but smooth. In a chat with Variety, Hemsworth shared how those tough days shaped his career.
In 2004, Hemsworth landed his first gig on the Australian soap Home and Away, but it wasn’t all amazing. “A big reason I started acting was because I loved film and TV, but it was like we had no money,” he recalled. The high school dropout had bigger dreams, saying, “I initially wanted to pay off their house. That was my sort of thing.” Talk about pressure! He put himself under those expectations, making the journey more challenging.
The holiday season brought more than just cheer; it also brought doubt.

He's played warlord Dementus in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the God of Thunder in the MCU, actual Optimus Prime in Josh Cooley's Transformers One, and Kevin in 2016's Ghostbusters. Now, having long since proven himself one of Hollywood's most charming guys, Aussie actor Chris Hemsworth is in the frame to play Disney's very own Charming guy — Prince Charming, that is. Per Deadline's reporting, the Extraction man is in talks to lead a live-action movie about Disney's quintessential royal suitor from Paddington and Wonka director Paul King.
First confirmed to be in development just last week, King's Prince Charming movie is set to see the British filmmaker reteam with regular writing collaborators Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker to offer a new angle on one of cinema and literature's most iconic — and arguably most two-dimensional — characters. The familiar sights and sounds of G.I. Joe came rushing back as the opening cutscene played. Growing up, Saturday mornings were spent glued to the TV set, cheering on heroes like Duke and Roadblock as they battled to thwart Cobra’s evil plans. Now, decades later, a new game arrives looking to recapture that magic.
G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra aims to transport players back to the 1980s world that sparked childhood imaginations. Striding into each level feels like stepping onto the cartoon set, with pixelated environments depicting iconic locations and a soundtrack pulsing with energized beats.
Of course, nostalgia can only carry an experience so far. To truly succeed, a game must also stand on its own as fun and engaging gameplay. Wrath of Cobra draws heavily from another beloved genre of the 80s and 90s—the side-scrolling beat ’em up. Games like the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...

It was supposed to be a big weekend at the box office for Paramount Pictures as "Transformers One," the brand-new, computer-animated origin story for the Autobots and Decepticaon, hit theaters. The film has been met with rave reviews, including from /Film's Rafael Motamayor, even winning over some of the biggest naysayers who had long since abandoned the franchise. Unfortunately, the animated flick was met with a muted response from moviegoers, leaving the future of the series on uncertain ground.
Director Josh Cooley's "Transformers One" opened with an estimated $25 million domestically, placing in second in a tight race as Warner Bros.' "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" won out for a third straight weekend with $26 million. In a race that tight, the placement hardly matters. What does matter is the film was expected to open with at least $35 million. The only good news here is that "Transformers One" carries a relatively modest $75 million budget.

Samara Weaving has "no idea" what the upcoming ‘Transformers’ crossover with the ‘G.I. She told ComicBook.com: "Yeah, I had no idea. I don't know what that means."The ‘Azrael’ star joked she had "so many calls to make now" but stressed that she would be interested in reprising her role as the action heroine if the opportunity to do so ever arose. Elsewhere, Weaving - who made a name for herself after starring alongside Adam Brodie, Andie MacDowell and Mark O’Brien as Grace Le Domas in 2019’s ‘Ready or Not’ - revealed...

This article contains massive spoilers for "Transformers One."
It's funny how long-lasting the "Transformers" series has been, having started out as a line of toys before evolving into a vast universe that has continued to tell exciting stories after 40 years — especially ones as varied as, say, the 1986 animated movie and the Michael Bay live-action adaptations. That being said, it's been a rough couple of years for the franchise as the live-action movies aren't the sure-fire box office hits they once were (but maybe the upcoming crossover with "G.I. Joe" will do the trick?).
Now, it's time for animation to save the franchise once again, because "Transformers One" is the best "Transformers" movie in decades. This is a movie that takes us back in time to tell a story inspired by biblical epics like "Ben-Hur" with a little "Revenge of the Sith" thrown in. But as good as the movie is,...

Since the ending of ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ we knew that two of Hasbro’s biggest franchises exist in the same universe and that we might be going toward a crossover movie.
And this crossover has been a long time in the making. Since at least 2013 Lorenzo di Bonaventura expressed interest in a ‘G.I. Joe’ and ‘Transformers’ crossover film, with director Jon M. Chu also showing interest by July of the same year. Although the project seemed uncertain in June 2014 and was initially planned to be introduced at the end of ‘G.I. Joe 3,’ Paramount decided against it.
By July 2021, di Bonaventura insisted that the crossover was “inevitable,” despite Paramount’s reluctance. The crossover began to gain traction with ‘Rise of the Beasts’ in June 2023, establishing shared continuity between the franchises. It was officially announced at CinemaCon 2024, with Derek Connolly hired to write the script in June 2024.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has offered a few thoughts on Transformers’ future beyond the upcoming animated prequel, Transformers One.
From a franchise management standpoint, Paramount has done a solid job stewarding the Transformers films as they approach their third decade as a cinema series. Critical responses haven’t always been kind, but each time the series looks like stalling the studio manages to find a way to inject new life into it.
Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts (2023) was the second in a series of live-action prequel movies that did okay business, falling short of the performance of Bumblebee, its 2018 predecessor. A new direction was thus called for, and first up, we’re getting a discrete animated prequel movie called Transformers One, arriving in cinemas next month.

Not Dwayne Johnson, I Want This 1 Celeb in Transformers-gi Joe Movie after its Insane Release Update
I am still shocked by the news that my favorite childhood franchises, G.I Joe and Transformers are finally collaborating. The Transformers: Rise of the Beasts movie alluded to them being from a shared universe. Then, Paramount confirmed that they were working on a crossover film and I couldn’t be happier.
As an avid fan of both franchises, I have always imagined what it would be like for Cybertronians to team up with elite agents of G.I Joe. With Derek Connelly from Jurassic Park as the writer now, I am sure this movie will end up as an epic success. However, the inclusion of one celebrity would be the cherry on the cake, and it’s not The Rock but Michael Bay.

The "Transformers" franchise was away for several years following the release of 2018's "Bumblebee," which helped get things back on track, critically speaking, following Michael Bay's later entries in the series. Things have changed, though, and now, fans have much to look forward to. Paramount is once again bringing the robots in disguise back to their animated roots for a new theatrical feature film titled "Transformers One," which serves as a prequel set years and years back in the timeline.
Given that the film takes place so far back in the history of Cybertron, there is much story to tell. The film's producers have already suggested that "Transformers One" is intended to set up a trilogy. So, does that set up begin once the credits roll? Do viewers need to stick around for any credits scenes? That's what we're here to discuss in spoiler-free fashion. Seriously, we will not...

The Transformers franchise is one of the best-known mecha franchises of all time. What started off as a series of action figures and a Japanese-American animated series became one of the most popular brands in the world and one of the best 80s series ever. Since its debut, numerous revivals and reboots have been made, including video games and a live-action movie series that started off strongly but began declining at one point.
Now, the series is exploring new realms at the moment, and with the upcoming Transformers: One project coming out soon, the fans are eager to know more about the future, especially about the planned crossover film with the G.I. Joe franchise.

When you think of actors getting trapped in unfair contracts, your mind probably goes to the era of Old Hollywood and the studio system, when stars worked for one studio and one studio only, sometimes making as many as five films a year for their corporate bosses. This system started falling apart in 1948 due to a Supreme Court case that led to the Paramount Decrees, a group of antitrust laws that broke up the studios' Hollywood monopoly.
Though the Paramount Decrees ended in 2020, the landmark Supreme Court ruling forever changed how Hollywood operated. Of course, actors still sign contracts with studios that limit their ability to choose which projects they take on. Hollywood is a business above all else, and the bosses want to make as much money off their actors as they possibly can. As such, lawsuits between actors and studios are more common than you might think, revealing...

While there are those who will sigh at the mere mention of Autobots and/or Decepticons these days, there is no denying that "Transformers" has been one of the most successful franchises of the past 20 years. Dating back to Michael Bay's original 2007 live-action film, the series based on Hasbro's beloved toys has done gangbusters business at the box office, paving the way for more shows, merchandise, theme park attractions, and yes, toys. Now, can Paramount bring things full circle and deliver a hit animated feature film in this universe? That is the question "Transformers One" will have to answer.
The animated prequel is set to reach theaters next weekend. Directed by Josh Cooley, of "Toy Story 4" fame, "Transformers One" is currently eyeing an opening in the $37 to $45 million range, per Box Office Theory. Richard Osman’s House of Games is king of the play-along quiz show. From editing in such long pauses before the celebrity contestants press their buzzers that you start to worry they’ve had a stroke, to Osman’s regular pats on the back to those of us rattling our windows at home by shouting “Michaela Strac-han Solo” at the final round, everything is generously designed to include viewers in the fun.
Almost everything. Non-celebrities have no route to the show’s knowingly naff yet covetable selection of 1970s game show-style prizes. Save for having a sheet of custom Richard Osman stickers made and going nuts in a branch of Dunelm Mill, we mortals will never get our hands on that bounty. It’s off limits.
That doesn’t mean we can’t help the famouses make their selection. Having been granted access to House of Games’ hallowed cornucopia, it...

Derek Connolly, the franchise scribe whose work includes the Jurassic World movies, has been tapped to write a live-action adaptation of Sega video game Eternal Champions for Skydance.
David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger will produce for Skydance, while Toru Nakahara, who has overseen the adaptation of Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, will produce for the video game producer.
Originally released in 1993, Eternal Champions was a fighting game that Sega developed and published for the Sega Genesis console. The concept, bear with us, was thus: In order to change the dire fate of Earth, a being known as the Eternal Champion marshals the souls of key humans from across history, people who were destined for greatness but died before fulfilling their promise. The individuals are thrown into a contest of champions, with the winner regaining their life and becoming the hero Earth needs in order to restore balance,...

In the very first action set piece of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, a chopper gets shot out of the sky, crashing in front of a truck carrying heroes that includes Duke (Channing Tatum) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans). The scene which follow would set the tone for the rest of movie. After that fiery explosion, there is an all-out assault on the soldiers, who do their best to repel the black-clad Cobra troopers. Alas, the heroes’ weapons are no match for the terrorists’ superior tech.
A funny thing, however, is also occurring in this scene—an element which borders on distracting. The camera focuses less on the carnage circling around the heroes and more on the recognizable IP of their vehicles and uniforms. The lens flies past the nose of the Cobra ship attacking Duke and Ripcord in order to instead highlight the high-tech missiles on its side. Each...

We recently found out that Transformers: Rise of the Beasts director Steven Caple Jr. is in line to helm the I Am Legend sequel which will star Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan.
Jordan has a history with Caple Jr. after the filmmaker stepped in to direct Creed II when Ryan Coogler decided not to return for the sequel. Rise of the Beasts did slightly underperform last year but received better reviews than its predecessors and earned a solid $439 million worldwide.
Of course, many of us anticipated him directing Paramount's long-awaited Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover starring Chris Hemsworth (particularly based on comments he'd made while promoting Rise of the Beasts), so why didn't it work out?
According to The InSneider's Jeff Sneider (via SFFGazette.com), "I’m told by multiple sources it’s because he got into a heated argument with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and walked away from the project.

If Deadpool & Wolverine screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have a superpower, it’s not sweating rejection.
When scores of stars turned down an offer to cameo in Zombieland, the studio was ready to give up, but Wernick insisted on a Hail Mary, and they asked star Woody Harrelson to dive into his rolodex for one more name. Two days later, Bill Murray was on set playing a zombie-fied version of himself in the movie’s most memorable sequence.
And as has been well documented, the duo — along with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller — overcame six years of hearing the word “no” to make that movie a genre-redefining reality.
What is less known is that Reese and Wernick themselves were actually rebuffed when they initially pitched their take to Reynolds and 20th Century Fox in the fall of 2009. The pair, hot off the success of Zombieland,...

Given Sony's track record, most fans didn't have particularly high expectations for Madame Web. So, when the movie debuted with 12% on Rotten Tomatoes and - by the end of its run - earned only $100.3 million at the worldwide box office, it didn't come as a huge surprise.
Despite boasting an impressive cast and a director with superhero experience in Sj Clarkson, little to nothing about Madame Web worked and it's now destined to be remembered as one of the worst superhero movies ever made.
Producer Avi Arad wasn't involved with Madame Web (a genuine surprise given his dismal history with Marvel) but Lorenzo di Bonaventura was. While his credits include the G.I. Joe and Transformers franchises, his presence clearly did little to help elevate a movie penned by the Morbius scribes.
Talking to ComicBook.com at the San Diego Comic-Con, Bonaventura was asked whether there's a chance we'll see the Spider-Women again.

Chris Hemsworth's children made him accept his role in 'Transformers One'.The 40-year-old actor voices Orion Pax aka Optimus Prime in the upcoming animated origin story, and when he was first offered the job, the 'Thor' star turned to his and Elsa Pataky's three kids, India, 12, and 10-year-old twins Sasha and Tristan, who he described as his "consultants".Admitting they "played a big part" in his accepting the role, he recalled to People magazine: "I had gone to my kids and said, 'What do you think?' And they said, 'You have to do it.' "The trio all joined their dad in the voiceover booth and he enjoyed having them encourage him in his work.He said: "They were in the background as I was recording a lot of these lines. They were kind of yelling suggestions or trying to distract me. It was cool.

Having just starred in George Miller's action epic Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and with Transformers One already well on its way, Aussie actor Chris Hemsworth could be forgiven for taking a moment to catch his breath over the summer. But before we've even had chance to see his take on Optimus Prime in Josh Cooley's Autobot origin story, the Thor star has already put another buzzy project in his pipeline. Per Deadline's reporting, Apple Original Films has won a hotly contested bid for The Corsair Code, an original sci-fi movie set to be led by Hemsworth.
Based on a short story by The Adam Project scribe Jonathan Tropper, who will also pen the screenplay for this one, plot details about The Corsair Code are closely guarded at present. For now, all we actually know about it is that it's being described as a "high-octane, sci-fi mystery adventure.

What Happened to Hasbro's Micronauts Show? Writer Eric Rogers Says It Got Scrapped - Main Image
Hasbro has apparently completed 52 episodes of Micronauts' animated show, which former head writer Eric Rogers recently confirmed, and fans are furious at the abrupt cancelation of the long-awaited series.
52-Episode Micronauts Show was Shelved At Hasbro, Head Writer Reveals
As early as December 2017, a Micronauts film was already confirmed for production and slated for theatrical release, but the journey wasn't easy for it to come to fruition.
Paramount picked out a 2020 theatrical release for a G.I. Joe film and 2021 for Dungeons & Dragons, while a live-action Micronauts was set to open seven months after G.I. Joe's March 2020 release (slated for October 2020).
When that didn't push through, Mego's beloved toy franchise since 1976 eventually transformed into an animated series in January 2018, set to launch sometime in 2019.
However, Micronauts never did come to our screens.

When David Ellison first came to Hollywood, many dealmakers and insiders both balked and salivated. Here was the son of Larry Ellison, founder of the tech behemoth Oracle, trying to play in the big leagues after dropping out of USC Film School. Being the child of the 3rd wealthiest person in America (now 4th) may have made him not just any other rich kid, but to many, he was still just another nepo baby with cash to burn. And at first, that’s exactly what he did. Financing and co-starring in the 2006 WWI drama “Flyboys,” Ellison’s first dip into the entertainment waters was a critical and box-office failure, only earning $17.8 million against its $60 million budget.
But Ellison didn’t pack his bags just yet. In Hollywood, timing is everything and when he saw investment banks pull capital out of media and entertainment during the financial crisis of the late 2000s,...

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts ended with Anthony Ramos' Noah, having saved the day, attending a job interview for what he thought was a simple security gig.
The interviewer somehow knew he saved the world and, after thanking Noah for his service, revealed that it was time for him to step up and join his group. Why? Because they're in the middle of a war. With that, Michael Kelly's mysterious Agent Burk handed Noah a business card and moved a plaque on the wall to reveal his secret base.
Along with the movie's lead, we then learned that the card was emblazoned simply with, "G.I. Joe."
With the stage set for the long-awaited Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover movie, fans are excited to now see it take shape. Rise of the Beasts helmer Steven Caple Jr. was briefly eyed to direct but is no longer attached and up until now,...

Paramount’s Transformers and GI Joe crossover movie, set to star Chris Hemsworth, has a writer: Derek Connolly, who wrote Jurassic World and Detective Pikachu.
Toys will collide in Paramount’s forthcoming Transformers and GI Joe crossover film – a cinematic extravaganza previously hinted at in 2023’s Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts.
Who will write this meeting of Hasbro properties? Derek Connolly, the screenwriter behind such effects-heavy films as Jurassic World and Detective Pikachu. Paramount’s crossover film will star Chris Hemsworth in some capacity, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, will see the Autobots and the Joes pitted against the evil Decepticons and the terrorist group, Cobra.
Hemsworth is lending his voice to Optimus Prime in this September’s Transformers One, a CG-animated prequel about the transforming robots’ earlier lives on the planet Cybertron. How did Autobot leader Optimus Prime and Megatron (voiced by Brian Tyree Henry) go from friends to mortal enemies?...

The long-awaited Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover movie has tapped Derek Connolly to write the script. Connolly is no stranger to big-budget franchise movies, having had a hand in writing the scripts for Jurassic World, Kong: Skull Island, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Detective Pikachu, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Chris Hemsworth has been in talks to star in the crossover between Transformers and G.I. Joes, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy set to produce.

There have been rumblings of a live-action crossover between the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises for quite some time, but the first steps were taken in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. At the close of the film, Anthony Ramos’ character gets a job offer from the Joes. Director Steven Caple Jr. told THR last year that while...

Derek Connolly, the franchise scribe whose work includes Jurassic World movies and Detective Pikachu, has a new sandbox in which to play.
Connolly has been tapped to pen the script for Paramount’s untitled Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover action project that is to star Chris Hemsworth.
The crossover feature will bring together two of Hasbro’s biggest toy lines, Transformers and G.I. Joe. It will pit the good guys — the robots in disguise Autobots and heroic Joes — against their archenemies, the dastardly Decepticons and conniving terrorist organization Cobra. While a team-up of the two toylines has happened in comic book form (the first in a Marvel Comics title in 1987), it has never occurred on screens, big or small.
The proposed film follows the events of last year’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which ended with Anthony Ramos’ character getting a job offer from the Joes.

Many of the recurring faces on "The Simpsons" have the same voice: Harry Shearer. Alongside Hank Azaria, Shearer does more than double duty in playing the series' supporting cast. As a testament to his range, his roles run the gamut from nice guy Ned Flanders to milquetoast Principal Skinner (don't say Armin Tamzarian) to evil Mr. Charles Montgomery Burns, owner of the Springfield Nuclear Plant and Homer Simpson's boss.
Shearer is the definitive voice of Mr. Burns (he's been doing it for 30+ seasons), but he wasn't the first actor to voice the character. That would be the late Christopher Collins, who was briefly part of the "Simpsons" cast during its first season, which aired from 1989 to 1990. Collins voiced Burns in the following episodes: "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire," "Homer's Odyssey," "There's No Disgrace Like Home," and "The Telltale Head."
Shearer took over in the season 1 episode "Homer's Night Out.
