He was invented at a time when the offerings of an average mass-market comic book company were a bit more diverse: in addition to superhero content, they published westerns, romance, funny cartoon animals, and military action dramas — Sgt. From 2005 to 2022, Idw Publishing held the "Transformers" comic license. When it was announced they were losing the license, fans felt uncertain; "Transformers" had been in Idw's hands for so long, so why not stay the course?

Change can be a great thing, though, and new "Transformers" publisher Skybound Entertainment is already making the most of the Robots in Disguise. Skybound's foremost publishing initiative is the "Energon Universe" — a setting combining "Transformers," "G.I. Joe," and Kirkman's original science-fiction title "Void Rivals." The ongoing "Transformers" comic written by Daniel Warren Johnson kicked off this new universe and remains its crown jewel so far.

Chu has admitted a second ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ probably won’t happen.The 45-year-old director helmed the rom-com - which is an adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s satirical 2013 novel of the same name - in 2018, and although there is much clamour for a follow-up, Chu insists it is unlikely because he is yet to find “a script that’s better and has as much urgency as the first movie”.In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Chu said: “There are a lot of questions about ‘Crazy Rich Asians 2’ . I always promised the cast, I will not bring them back unless we get a script that’s better and has as much urgency as the first movie. Jon M. Chu is probably a name you’ve heard of, if not earlier, than recently, as he is the director of the upcoming two-part movie Wicked, which is based on the successful stage musical. The movie has attracted a lot of media attention and we have yet to see how good it is, but that is a topic for a different article.

Aside from his work on Wicked, Chu has also worked on several other major or otherwise popular projects and one of his earlier ones was the 2013 film G.I. Joe: Retaliation, his third standalone film and the first one not to be connected to the Step-Up franchise.

Retaliation was not received well by the critics, but it was considered an improvement, and it grossed $375.7 million worldwide against a budget of $130–155 million, which was a solid result for such a movie.

Late manga author Akira Toriyama, known for creating iconic works like Dragon Ball, Sand Land, and Dr. Slump, has been inducted into the prestigious Harvey Awards Hall of Fame.

The announcement was made ahead of the Harvey Awards ceremony, which is set to take place at New York Comic Con on Friday, Oct 18, 2024.

The mangaka, who passed away earlier in 2024, joins Arthur Adams, the acclaimed Marvel artist behind Uncanny X-Men and Excalibur; Sergio Aragones, a longtime contributor to Mad magazine and creator of Groo the Wanderer; John Buscema, the late Marvel artist known for his work during the 1960s to 1980s; and Larry Hama, the writer and artist who helped build the G.I. Joe universe.

It was supposed to be a big weekend at the box office for Paramount Pictures as "Transformers One," the brand-new, computer-animated origin story for the Autobots and Decepticaon, hit theaters. The film has been met with rave reviews, including from /Film's Rafael Motamayor, even winning over some of the biggest naysayers who had long since abandoned the franchise. Unfortunately, the animated flick was met with a muted response from moviegoers, leaving the future of the series on uncertain ground.

Director Josh Cooley's "Transformers One" opened with an estimated $25 million domestically, placing in second in a tight race as Warner Bros.' "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" won out for a third straight weekend with $26 million. In a race that tight, the placement hardly matters. What does matter is the film was expected to open with at least $35 million. The only good news here is that "Transformers One" carries a relatively modest $75 million budget.

It's funny how long-lasting the "Transformers" series has been, having started out as a line of toys before evolving into a vast universe that has continued to tell exciting stories after 40 years — especially ones as varied as, say, the 1986 animated movie and the Michael Bay live-action adaptations. That being said, it's been a rough couple of years for the franchise as the live-action movies aren't the sure-fire box office hits they once were (but maybe the upcoming crossover with "G.I. Joe" will do the trick?).

Now, it's time for animation to save the franchise once again, because "Transformers One" is the best "Transformers" movie in decades. This is a movie that takes us back in time to tell a story inspired by biblical epics like "Ben-Hur" with a little "Revenge of the Sith" thrown in. But as good as the movie is,...

Since the ending of ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ we knew that two of Hasbro’s biggest franchises exist in the same universe and that we might be going toward a crossover movie.

And this crossover has been a long time in the making. Since at least 2013 Lorenzo di Bonaventura expressed interest in a ‘G.I. Joe’ and ‘Transformers’ crossover film, with director Jon M. Chu also showing interest by July of the same year. Although the project seemed uncertain in June 2014 and was initially planned to be introduced at the end of ‘G.I. Joe 3,’ Paramount decided against it.

By July 2021, di Bonaventura insisted that the crossover was “inevitable,” despite Paramount’s reluctance. The crossover began to gain traction with ‘Rise of the Beasts’ in June 2023, establishing shared continuity between the franchises. From a franchise management standpoint, Paramount has done a solid job stewarding the Transformers films as they approach their third decade as a cinema series. Critical responses haven’t always been kind, but each time the series looks like stalling the studio manages to find a way to inject new life into it.

Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts (2023) was the second in a series of live-action prequel movies that did okay business, falling short of the performance of Bumblebee, its 2018 predecessor. A new direction was thus called for, and first up, we’re getting a discrete animated prequel movie called Transformers One, arriving in cinemas next month.

I am still shocked by the news that my favorite childhood franchises, G.I Joe and Transformers are finally collaborating. The Transformers: Rise of the Beasts movie alluded to them being from a shared universe. Then, Paramount confirmed that they were working on a crossover film and I couldn’t be happier.

As an avid fan of both franchises, I have always imagined what it would be like for Cybertronians to team up with elite agents of G.I Joe. With Derek Connelly from Jurassic Park as the writer now, I am sure this movie will end up as an epic success. However, the inclusion of one celebrity would be the cherry on the cake, and it’s not The Rock but Michael Bay.

In the very first action set piece of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, a chopper gets shot out of the sky, crashing in front of a truck carrying heroes that includes Duke (Channing Tatum) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans). The scene which follow would set the tone for the rest of movie. After that fiery explosion, there is an all-out assault on the soldiers, who do their best to repel the black-clad Cobra troopers. Alas, the heroes’ weapons are no match for the terrorists’ superior tech.

A funny thing, however, is also occurring in this scene—an element which borders on distracting. The camera focuses less on the carnage circling around the heroes and more on the recognizable IP of their vehicles and uniforms. We recently found out that Transformers: Rise of the Beasts director Steven Caple Jr. is in line to helm the I Am Legend sequel which will star Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan.

Jordan has a history with Caple Jr. after the filmmaker stepped in to direct Creed II when Ryan Coogler decided not to return for the sequel. Rise of the Beasts did slightly underperform last year but received better reviews than its predecessors and earned a solid $439 million worldwide.

Of course, many of us anticipated him directing Paramount's long-awaited Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover starring Chris Hemsworth (particularly based on comments he'd made while promoting Rise of the Beasts), so why didn't it work out?

When scores of stars turned down an offer to cameo in Zombieland, the studio was ready to give up, but Wernick insisted on a Hail Mary, and they asked star Woody Harrelson to dive into his rolodex for one more name. Two days later, Bill Murray was on set playing a zombie-fied version of himself in the movie’s most memorable sequence.

And as has been well documented, the duo — along with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller — overcame six years of hearing the word “no” to make that movie a genre-redefining reality.

What is less known is that Reese and Wernick themselves were actually rebuffed when they initially pitched their take to Reynolds and 20th Century Fox in the fall of 2009. The pair, hot off the success of Zombieland,...

Given Sony's track record, most fans didn't have particularly high expectations for Madame Web. So, when the movie debuted with 12% on Rotten Tomatoes and - by the end of its run - earned only $100.3 million at the worldwide box office, it didn't come as a huge surprise. 

Despite boasting an impressive cast and a director with superhero experience in Sj Clarkson, little to nothing about Madame Web worked and it's now destined to be remembered as one of the worst superhero movies ever made. 

Producer Avi Arad wasn't involved with Madame Web (a genuine surprise given his dismal history with Marvel) but Lorenzo di Bonaventura was. While his credits include the G.I. Joe and Transformers franchises, his presence clearly did little to help elevate a movie penned by the Morbius scribes.

Talking to ComicBook.com at the San Diego Comic-Con, Bonaventura was asked whether there's a chance we'll see the Spider-Women again.

Hasbro has apparently completed 52 episodes of Micronauts' animated show, which former head writer Eric Rogers recently confirmed, and fans are furious at the abrupt cancelation of the long-awaited series.

As early as December 2017, a Micronauts film was already confirmed for production and slated for theatrical release, but the journey wasn't easy for it to come to fruition.

Paramount picked out a 2020 theatrical release for a G.I. Joe film and 2021 for Dungeons & Dragons, while a live-action Micronauts was set to open seven months after G.I. Joe's March 2020 release (slated for October 2020).

When that didn't push through, Mego's beloved toy franchise since 1976 eventually transformed into an animated series in January 2018, set to launch sometime in 2019.

However, Micronauts never did come to our screens.

Derek Connolly, the franchise scribe whose work includes Jurassic World movies and Detective Pikachu, has a new sandbox in which to play.

Connolly has been tapped to pen the script for Paramount’s untitled Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover action project that is to star Chris Hemsworth.

The crossover feature will bring together two of Hasbro’s biggest toy lines, Transformers and G.I. Joe. It will pit the good guys — the robots in disguise Autobots and heroic Joes — against their archenemies, the dastardly Decepticons and conniving terrorist organization Cobra. While a team-up of the two toylines has happened in comic book form (the first in a Marvel Comics title in 1987), it has never occurred on screens, big or small.

The proposed film follows the events of last year’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which ended with Anthony Ramos’ character getting a job offer from the Joes.

Many of the recurring faces on "The Simpsons" have the same voice: Harry Shearer. Alongside Hank Azaria, Shearer does more than double duty in playing the series' supporting cast. Shearer is the definitive voice of Mr. Burns (he's been doing it for 30+ seasons), but he wasn't the first actor to voice the character. That would be the late Christopher Collins, who was briefly part of the "Simpsons" cast during its first season, which aired from 1989 to 1990. Collins voiced Burns in the following episodes: "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire," "Homer's Odyssey," "There's No Disgrace Like Home," and "The Telltale Head."

Marvel and Dune star, Josh Brolin, is the latest actor to join the expanding cast list for Rian Johnson’s ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.’

Brolin joins Daryl McCormack, Jeremy Renner, Mila Kunis, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Josh O’Connor and Cailee Spaeny who have previously been announced as the latest cast members to join Daniel Craig who reprises his role as Benoit Blanc.

Plot details are being kept a total mystery, but Johnson and Craig have teased that it is Blanc’s “most dangerous case yet.”
