It turns out that “The Devil Wears Prada” just might have put Stanley Tucci’s career in purgatory.
The “Conclave” actor told Vanity Fair that it was difficult for him to find work following the iconic 2006 film. Tucci played a creative director who works for Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly and also helps new hire Andy (Anne Hathaway) assimilate into the corporate fashion world. While Tucci’s character Nigel is technically a supporting role, it’s certainly a standout one. Not that casting directors noticed.
“After ‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ I couldn’t get a job, and I didn’t quite understand that,” Tucci said, “but that’s just the way it was. So I went and did stuff that I didn’t necessarily want to do, but I did it.”
Tucci’s roles right after “The Devil Wears Prada” include films “Blind Date,” “What Just Happened,” “Swing Vote,” and an “American Girl” movie.

Alec Baldwin’s temper is the stuff of Hollywood legend. His volatile behavior on the set of “The Edge” — he refused to shave his beard — left such an impression on producer Art Linson that he made a movie about it, “What Just Happened,” with Bruce Willis caricaturing Baldwin as a tantrum-throwing star.
But he is also an adept and dependable actor. Dean Goodine was the prop master on “The Edge,” a thriller filmed in the Canadian Rockies. Before one key scene, he showed Baldwin how to load dummies into a Winchester Model 1886.
“I have no stories other than of him being professional,” Goodine says. “He paid attention to all the training. He did the scene flawlessly.”

The cover art for the Kid Laroi’s debut studio album, The First Time, depicts the 20-year-old Australian rapper-singer with a scowl plastered across his face. A mask, seemingly of his own face, rests on his stomach—a symbolic gesture that suggests that he’s done hiding his true emotions and is about to start writing from, as he puts it on the semi-affecting closer “Kids Are Growing Up,” “a place that you ain’t heard about.”
Despite such assurances of changed ways, though, the 20 songs that comprise The First Time do little to suggest an attempt at musical maturation. For every genuine stab at introspection on the superficially self-analytical opening track, “Sorry,” we get at least two empty flexes about extravagant purchases or boasts about how many platinum plaques Laroi has racked up in the past year. The qualitative whiplash of “Sorry” is fairly representative of The First Time as a whole,...

The Kid Laroi has linked up with Future and BabyDrill for a new song, “What’s the Move?” off his upcoming debut album, The First Time.
With a beat that blends speaker-rattling percussion with dazed synth loops, “What’s the Move?” is as much about getting off the best boasts (“My lifestyle DaVinci,” Future proclaims, “Know my lifestyle expensive”) as it is about yearning for escape. “I’m sick of wasting time,” Laroi sings on the hook, “You know I am/I need some peace of mind/I want leave the country/Baby,...

What is it with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom? Is it Wednesday? Is it Friday? The DC sequel will now open on Friday Dec. 22 this year instead of Dec. 20. Know that Warners knows what they’re doing here: They turned Aquaman back in 2018 into the highest grossing DC movie of all-time at $1.15 billion. That movie launched on Saturday and Wednesday with previews, and after an official opening on a Friday (Dec. 21) cleared over $105M at the domestic B.O. by Christmas Day –which fell on a Tuesday that year. What they do here with the immediate shift is they capture more gross closer to the Christmas Day Monday when moviegoing shifts into high gear. It’s a four-day holiday weekend. Aquaman ended its stateside run at $335M.
Meanwhile, the Barry Levinson, Robert De Niro playing twin mobsters movie Wise Guys is now titled Alto Knights and has moved from Feb.

Warner Bros. has given its upcoming theatrical slate a small shake-up. “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” the final installment in the current continuation of DC Comics adaptations before an imminent reboot, has been bumped from Dec. 20 to Dec. 22. The shift from the Wednesday to the Friday release date gives the superhero film a traditional three-day opening in theaters, as opposed to the originally slated five-day rollout.
The slight delay gives “Aquaman 2” a little bit of extra space away from the Timothée Chalamet chocolatier prequel “Wonka.” Warner Bros. is also releasing that spin on novelist Roald Dahl’s enduring character, debuting the film on Dec. 15.
It’s a busy holiday season for the studio, which is also bowing its adaptation of “The Color Purple” musical on Christmas Day. That’s three big titles coming one after the other, arriving more than three months after the last Warner Bros. release — “The Nun II,...

ABC‘s The Company You Keep continues to recruit great talent for its stellar cast. From Bridget Regan in the premiere to Luke Kirby in episode 3, we have been mighty impressed. And the latest addition to the cast of The Company You Keep is Marin Hinkle, who plays Claire Fox in episode 4, “All In.”

Robert De Niro and Robert De Niro will star in Warner Bros. Discovery first big bet: a mafia picture
While Warner Bros. Discovery has been busy fretting over their DC Comics slate—deleting the already-completed “Batgirl” film while hoping Ezra Miller’s intention to seek mental health help will bring enough stability to successfully launch “The Flash” next year—the newly-formed entertainment entity is placing a bet on another American superhero: Robert De Niro.
And it’s not just a bet, they’re doubling down.
The first original film produced with David Zaslav as the top executive at the studio will feature the two-time Oscar-winner (and eight-time nominee) in two roles. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Wise Guys” concerns the true mafia war between Frank Costello and Vito Genovese, and De Niro will play both men. This will be an acting feat like Jeremy Irons in “Dead Ringers,” but trading gynecological instruments for zabaglione.
The script comes from a guy who knows a thing or two about the New York City mob: Nicholas Pileggi,...

It's a whole new era for Warner Bros. Discovery, and after being dogged by controversy after controversy for the last several weeks, the studio's focus can finally go back to, you know, the business of funding, making and releasing movies. The first original production under the newly-merged studio, however, can't help but bring back memories of Warner Bros.' golden years with the upcoming project "Wise Guys." In a fascinating wrinkle, two familiar faces with ties to "Goodfellas" will be significantly involved.
As much as audiences have gravitated towards superhero movies these days and Westerns before them, perhaps no genre quite manages to compare to the prestige and sense of storytelling as the classic gangster epic. Legendary movie star Robert De Niro cut his teeth on these movies, rapidly rising through the ranks to become one of the world's most famous actors after performances in classics like "Mean Streets," "The Godfather Part II,...

Like many monthly releases before it, Hulu’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by a whole bunch of FX TV shows.
The initiative once known as “FX on Hulu” is no more but that’s not stopping the cable network-turned quality TV brand from churning out some intriguing titles for the streaming world this month. It all starts early on with season 2 of the delightful comedy Reservation Dogs on Aug. 3. That is followed up by the docuseries Children of the Underground on Aug. 13, Little Demon on Aug. 26, and The Patient of Aug. 30. The most interesting of the bunch,...

Sean Penn defiantly swims against the Hollywood current with “Flag Day,” a labor of love that harkens back to another era of moviemaking. Jennifer Vogel’s memoir “Flim-Flam Man: A True Family History,” published in 2004, resisted film financing over 18 years, said producer William Horberg (“The Queen’s Gambit”) at the Cannes afterparty at the Martinez. Back at the start, producer Michael De Luca loved the project, and after many detours and obstacles, when the MGM studio head saw the nearly finished film, enthusiastically acquired it for release in 2021 (just as the studio was acquired by Amazon). Horberg was joyful at the film’s good fortune.
Like many other well-reviewed films at Cannes, a robust theatrical future is by no means assured for this old-fashioned ’70s-’80s father-daughter story, which marks Penn’s first time acting in his own film, after helming six features. Thanks to Matt Damon, Penn said at Sunday’s press conference,...

ABC’s primetime college football season opener featuring No. 4-ranked Oklahoma against Houston drew a night-leading 1.5 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 5.34 million viewers, proving to be a worthy opponent to CBS’ Big Brother on Sunday.
Big Brother dipped two-tenths compared with last week’s early numbers, touching a season low, though it did finish No. 2 overall in both the demo and total viewers, behind a repeat 60 Minutes in the latter metric. Last week, Bb grew a tenth to a 1.2 in the finals also against football (an NFL preseason game on NBC), so we’ll see if that happens again.
The Oklahoma-Houston game meanwhile, a 49-31 win for the Sooners, topped each half-hour on the night from 7:30-11 Pm Et.
Elsewhere, almost everyone else went with repeats owing to the three-day Labor Day holiday, an exception being Fox’s season finale of What Just Happened??! With Fred Savage...

Amid a sea of reality series on the Big 4 networks this summer, Fox tried something different with What Just Happened??!, an aftershow parody hosted by Fred Savage.
The series — a blend of a real talk-show and a scripted comedy set around a fake aftershow for a fictional sci-fi drama based on a series of books that don’t exist — has barely registered in the linear Nielsen ratings, averaging paltry 680,000 viewers and a 0.2 adults 18-49 rating in Live+Same Day on Sundays.
The network has not made an official renewal decision for What Happened??!, which still is airing, but the writing seems to be on the wall.
“Obviously the ratings were not as high as we’d hoped, so I think a second season is challenging,” Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn told Deadline at TCA.
Still, “the project was a really fun experiment for us,” he said. “While it didn’t break through in the ratings,...

ABC’s three-hour Cma Fest special scored a 0.8 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 4.69 million viewers in primetime Sunday, giving the network an easy win in both metrics for the night.
The Country Music Association’s annual performance show was down a tenth from last year’s edition but mostly even in eyeballs, giving it more than the night’s traditional leader, CBS’ Big Brother, which still was Sunday’s top-rated show.
The night’s most viewed show was a repeat 60 Minutes at 7 Pm. CBS also rolled out originals of Instinct and the season finale of The Good Fight, both even week over week.
Fox’s only original on Sunday was the Fred Savage-fronted What Just Happened ??!, which was also on par.
NBC and the CW aired repeats.

Sunday was fairly quiet with minor ratings ups and downs across the networks in primetime. It’s no surprise that despite dipping a tenth, Big Brother managed to win the night with a 1.0 in the adults 18-49 demographic to go along with 4.39 million viewers. Leading into the CBS reality series was 60 Minutes, which ticked up a tenth from last week and was the night’s most-watched program.
It was ABC that won the night, however, averaging 0.7 in the overall ratings with its game show lineup. Celebrity Family Feud was down a tenth, but $100,000 Pyramid (0.8, 4.87M) was up a tenth and To Tell The Truth held steady. ABC won Sunday in total viewers for the fourth week in a row and first place in adults 18-49 for a third week running.
NBC was populated with reruns Sunday night, but the peacock network aired coverage of the U.S.

As Hollywood continues its move to more diversity and inclusion behind and in front of the camera, there is one genre that often gets overlooked: unscripted television. During reality competitions and live events, the screen isn’t totally void of representation of women, people of color and other marginalized communities, but behind the camera is a different story.
Carrie Havel is changing that.
She has worked on some of TV’s most successful unscripted franchises including America’s Got Talent, World of Dance, The Titan Games, Little Big Shots, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars and the MTV Video Music Awards. She has also worked on nearly all of the live network musical events including Hairspray Live, Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, A Christmas Story Live and Rent Live. Fox has given a six-episode order to A Moody Christmas, a half-hour single-camera holiday event series, an adaptation of the Australian series of the same name, to air during the 2019 holiday season. The series hails from CBS TV Studios, which will co-produce with Fox Entertainment.
Written by comedy veterans Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg and Tad Quill, A Moody Christmas follows Dan Moody as he returns home to spend Christmas with his dysfunctional family. When he arrives, he’s met with the inevitable madness of a family whose members are all hiding things from each other.
Fox is envisioning this as an ongoing event series franchise. “It begins at Christmas but isn’t just limited to Christmas,” Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn told Deadline last month. “We will meet this family, the Moodys, at very important events throughout their lifecycle that a family experiences together.”
