It's a romantic comedy, but all in all it had a lot of funny parts throughout and my spouse and I both enjoyed it. I feel like the 4.6 rating currently is lower than it deserves for sure.
Carol Peters (Melissa McCarthy) has a bad job interview at a computer company. The computer AI Superintelligence (James Corden) takes an interest. It intends to study her as an average person. The fate of humanity is at stakes. Her best friend Dennis Caruso (Brian Tyree Henry) is a computer scientist. George Churchill (Bobby Cannavale) is her ex-boyfriend.
This has a big premise but it goes small into a small romance match-making. The AI turns into e-harmony. The idea is to pair the highest of stakes with the lowest of hurdle. The idea should be building a friendship between Carol and the Superintelligence. That's the pairing that this movie needs. The plot concentrates on the wrong pairing.

Here's the message of the movie - AI (Artificial intelligence) can never learn the idiosyncrasy of the human heart, mind, spirit. And this flick takes its' time bringing that to light.
Very little comedy and what is there was like squeezing blood out of the damn turnip. This story is the simmering pot that never comes to a boil. You never really care about any of the characters and some actors seem to be embarrassed to be there!
I always liked Melissa McCarthy but here in this movie she's flat on her face just like the scene where she's ejected from that automobile. And my pet peeve is that I cannot stand to hear James Corden speak!! But I suffered his voice to watch this movie.

This is a rom-com not a sci-fi movie. It's just a fun little romp, take it for what it's worth. I did take an entire star away for spelling Pike Place Market wrong. 😁
What a waste of time! Childish and unfunny. I tried my utter best to enjoy this film and kept waiting for something funny to happen, but alas, it fell completely flat. I used to enjoy Melissa's movies (Spy, The Heat, Tammy), but this is just abysmal and utterly bland to the point of being totally forgettable.

Despite the negative reviews I really enjoyed this charming, simple and funny movie. It is pleasant relief from the terrible year that is upon us. Just enjoy it! Some things don't need to be deep, although it makes a point that humans are their own worst enemy and we need to do more and step up!

I like Melissa McCarthy but anytime she acts in one of her husband's films, I know I need to lower my expectations. Ben Falcone, you're ruining your wife's career!! 😡

This is one of those "comedies" that you are not expected to laugh. Maybe you can muster a smile when Melissa McCarthy's does some of her patented physical humor, but that's it. Add to that a ridiculous plot, and you have two hours that you could've spent doing something better, like sleeping, perhaps.
On a related point, what happened to the career of Melissa McCarthy? If these are the roles she is accepting I'm sorry because I really thought she was talented, but I guess the mortgage won't pay itself.
Finally, I have to wonder, why are these kind of movies ever made? Not funny, not amusing in any way, just a half hearted attempt that seems some executive or investor should've said, "This script is garbage, come back when you have something good!"
Trash storyline filled with typical Hollywood preachy leftism its also about 30 minutes too long had to force myself to stay awake until the end. James Cordon should be banned from appearing in a movie ever again. McCarthy did her job rehashing the same character she always plays. Utterly forgettable.

My wife and I thought it was very cute. The superintelligent computer was less plot and more a vehicle for the romance, but did have its share of laughs. We found the jokes and the chemistry of the couple very similar to our own, which always brings a breath of realism to a movie. Well done guys!

Words cannot describe how bad and forgettable this film is. Melissa McCarthy again plays the same role she has in every other film. The film plot is annoying and boring. Pure awful from start to finish.

I think, but I'm not sure, she used to be in some funny films but this was truly painful to watch.
Not one single laugh and the acting from all was stiff and pathetic.
How can writers, editors, directors etc. make pathetic crap like this and think they've done anything creative? Even anything remotely creative???
Embarrassed to have admitted to have watched this tripe!

Just as Carol Peters is listed as the most average person in the entire world, this movie similarly fits the part of most made-for-streaminng titles. It's some nice, innocuous fun that provides some pretty good jokes (with a few belly laughs) and a familiar storyline that is neither overly offensive nor particularly mind-blowing. Pop yourself some popcorn, pour a glass of wine and snuggle up to your partner and turn your brain off for 90 minutes while McCarthy provides some pretty good entertainment.

2 out of 5 stars.
Superintelligence is a comedy sci fi film that tries for light hearted humor. But is a complete miss. The story about a super intelligent computer that plans to end the world. But is studying Melissa McCarthys character for a few days to see if the world is worth saving. Dumb plot. Boring characters. The humor is dull. If you seen McCarthys other films that Ben Falcone has directed. The humor is no different than those films. Which is very old with this film. James Cordens voice as the super computer voice is eh.
This comedy is a complete miss.

This was funny, I laughed out loud more than 5 times so it passed the comedy test. The first 10 mins just irritated with James Corden' torrent of words . Mr Corden wants to appear "zany" but he really isn't unique enough in his comic persona to pull this off. (like Robin Williams, Jim Carey or Eddie Murphy). 2 duff performances now in a row, The Prom and this, take a hint James.
If this movie had had any more of Melissa and James's interaction I would have turned over. Thank the heavens for Melissa's ex-boyfriend George played by Bobby Cannavale, who joined about 30 mins in, he brought a dead pan delivery and believability to the romantic element. Also Dennis, Melissa's friend played by Brian Henry was really funny, he was actually "zany" lol!
In conclusion it seems the supporting ensemble have brought this movie up to a respectable 6, worth a watch but instantly forgettable. Melissa really worked the clunky script, but as her agent should advise, some scripts need turning down!

We enjoyed this movie. It's nice to see a good, clean romantic comedy for a change. I found it very funny. I love Melissa McCarthy. I liked the sci-fi angle. I would recommend it.
Light-hearted fun comedy which would suit people like me (Ok Boomer sanguine type who likes feel-good movies) I just watched Tenet by Chris Nolan, and although I like SF Mindbenders, well, I preferred this movie with the lower ratings. Why? - I just like Romantic comedies that are more fun than the deep stuff.
..so if you are like me, then go ahead and watch this one.
So cliched. The plot is barebones. Apart from the sporadic performances of some of the supporting cast, this movie is so bad.
The lead actress is just so painfully unlikeable and comes across as unrelatable. It seems like she's living out her personal fantasy through this movie. Some of the inspirational lines are delivered so badly that you know the actress just can't portray this character.
A movie is supposed like to be art, leaving you changed when you behold the experience.
This movie just leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. So tread carefully.
