Sebastian Ulmer is desperate. He flees through the center of Vienna, the police hot on his heels. He takes hostages in a bookshop. Among them is Richard Brock, the police psychologist and interrogation specialist. Brock tries to persuade Sebastian to surrender. But Sebastian shoots himself in front of him when he realizes the hopelessness of his situation. Richard Brock is deeply affected. Driven by feelings of guilt, he wants to find the cause of the tragedy. He finds out that someone must have tried to discredit Sebastian Ulmer. Criminally incriminating material was planted on him. In the course of the investigation, Brock comes across a clergyman, Josef Bacher, who makes him understand that Sebastian has been greatly wronged. As Sebastian Ulmer's confessor, however, he cannot reveal the secret. Suddenly there is a suspicion of sexual abuse. Sebastian Ulmer had already tried to take his own life at the age of only nine. Did Sebastian now want to go public? Who wanted to silence him? Richard Brock delves deep into the world of Sebastian's deeply religious family. Eva Ulmer, his mother, is firmly convinced that Josef Bacher, of all people, is responsible for her son's lifelong suffering and his death, and vows revenge. Brock realizes that Eva Ulmer was tragically mistaken and does everything he can to prevent the situation from escalating further. He does not have much time.
