The 2011 Campeonato Estadual da Serie A de Profissionais do Rio de Janeiro is the 110th season of Rio de Janeiro's top professional football league. The competition will begin January 19 and end on May 15. Botafago is the defending champion.

Format

The sixteen clubs were divided into two groups that will play in two tournaments. In the first tournament, the Taça Guanabara, the teams from one group will play within their group in a single round-robin tournament. The two best teams from each group will advance to the playoffs and while the next best two will play for the Troféu Washington Rodrigues. In the second tournament, the Taça Rio, the teams will play with against the teams in the other group in a single round-robin format. The two best teams from each group will advance to the playoffs and while the next best two will play for the Troféu Carlos Alberto Torres. The winner of both the Taça Guanabara and Taça Rio will play for the state championship. If the same team wins both tournament, they are automatically declared the champion.

Qualifications

The best two teams not qualified to 2012 Copa Libertadores will qualify for 2012 Copa do Brasil. The best team not playing in Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, B, or C will qualify for 2011 Campeonato Brasileiro Série D

The 2011 Taça Guanabara began on January 19 and ended on February 27. Flamengo won their 19th Taça Guanabara and qualified to the state finals.
