Aimee Kelly is a British actress born on 8 July 1993 in Fenham, Newcastle. She is best known for playing her character Maddy Smith in Series 1 and Series 2 in CBBC's children's drama Wolfblood. She made her screen debut aged 16 playing the lead in feature film Sket. The film premiered as part of the 55th BFI London Film Festival. For her performance, Aimee was nominated for Best British Newcomer at the LFF Awards.

Career

Kelly appeared on the sixth season of the children's gameshow, Raven in 2006 under her warrior name, Melka. She reached the fifth day of the second week, finishing third. At 16, she auditioned for the role of Minnie McGuinness in E4's Skins, however the role got cast to Freya Mavor.[1] After this audition, casting director, Jane Ripley, contacted Kelly about Sket, after recalls she got the part of Kayla Richards making this her debut film. The story of the British production was Kayla trying to find the man who killed her sister, along the way joining a gang who help her in her search. She was nominated for Best British Newcomer at the British Film Institute for her role.[1] In 2013, she was also nominated for 'best performer' at the British Academy Children's Awards, for her role in, CBBC show, Wolfblood. However she lost to her fellow co-star, Bobby Lockwood, (who plays Rhydian Morris in the show). Since, Kelly has also filmed an episode of Call the Midwife. Debbie Moon (the creator of Wolfblood, stated on her blog "Never Get off The Bus") that at the end of Series 2 she decided to leave Wolfblood to pursue other roles. Although on twitter, Kelly stated that she couldn't pursue Maddy because she was busy studying at University: "On the contrary of the speculations I'd like to say that finishing my year at university was the reason for not returning to WB season 3". And later she wrote: "It wasn't an easy decision but sometimes education comes first! Thank you so much to all of you that supported me along the way! Xx"

Personal life

Before pursuing a career in acting, Kelly attended Sacred Heart Catholic high School which was where her English teacher persuaded her to go further in performing arts at the age of 15. She also did extra-curricular drama lessons at the Sage Academy Of Performing Arts (along with her twin, Katie.) She then applied to take A levels at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, which is where Daisy Ridley also attended, leaving her mother and two sisters in Newcastle to become a boarder for two years at the Hertfordshire campus. Before getting the role of Kayla in Sket, Kelly worked as a waitress in a bar and as a shop assistant. Recently she moved to LA.
