Alyssa Mastromonaco (born February 22, 1976)[1] is the Chief Operating Officer of Vice Media, Inc. She previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations in the administration of President Barack Obama from 2011 to 2014.[2]
Biography
Education
Mastromonaco grew up in Rhinebeck, New York[3] and originally attended the University of Vermont, majoring in French. After a stint interning for then-Rep. Bernie Sanders as he campaigned for his fourth term in the House of Representatives, she transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she majored in political science, graduating with a BA in 1998.[3][4]
Career
Mastromonaco worked as the Director of Scheduling for Senator John Kerry's presidential campaign in 2004, and before that was Press Secretary for Congressman Rick Boucher of Virginia. She has worked for President Obama since February 2005, when she first joined Obama's United States Senate office as Director of Scheduling. After that, Mastromonaco was named the Political Director for Obama's Political Action Committee, Hopefund, during the 2006 midterm elections. Mastromonaco served as Director of Scheduling and Advance for Barack Obama's presidential campaign beginning at his announcement in February 2007.
On November 25, 2008, Mastromonaco was appointed Director of Scheduling and Advance in the administration of President Barack Obama.[5] In 2011, she was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations.[2]
In November 2011, Mastromonaco was included on The New Republic's list of Washington's most powerful, least famous people.[6]
On March 8, 2014, The Associated Press announced that Mastromonaco would be officially resigning from the White House in May 2014. She was replaced by Anita Decker Breckenridge.[7][8]
In January 2015 she began work at Vice Media, the news and entertainment group as its chief operating officer.
Personal
Mastromonaco is married to David Krone, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid's chief of staff.[9] They were married by Justice Elena Kagan at the Supreme Court,[8]
