The 2002 Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council election took place on 2 May 2002 to elect members of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council in South Yorkshire, England. One third of the council was up for election and the Labour party stayed in overall control of the council.[1]
After the election, the composition of the council was
- Labour 49
- Independent 10
- Conservative 4
- Liberal Democrat 3[2]
Election result
The results saw Labour keep a large majority despite losing seats to independents.[3] Overall turnout in the election was 26%.[4]
