Benteng Heritage Museum

Benteng Heritage Museum is a museum in Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia. It the first and the only Chinese descent museum in Indonesia and is located in Tangerang Old Market near Cisadane River.

This museum is a restoration of a traditional Chinese building. Benteng Heritage Museum is one of the oldest buildings in Tangerang city, which became the pioneer of Tangerang city center formerly called the Benteng city.

History

This old building was occupied by local people. Before it was used as museum, the building was very poorly maintained. Believing that the building was a cultural site with historic value, Udaya Halim took over the old building in 2009. Immediately, he undertook a restoration process to bring the building back to its original condition. That process took two years. After the restoration process was complete, some Chinese decorations were added to strengthen the Chinese feel of the building. The addition of a partition and extra decorations was done through research since there were no sources describing how the building used to be.
