Bernie Stolar

Bernard "Bernie" Stolar (October 9, 1946 – June 22, 2022) was an American businessman who worked in the video game industry for many years. He was best known as a founding member of Sony Computer Entertainment America essential to the launch of the original PlayStation, and later as president of Sega of America, where he helped lead the development of the company's last home console, the Dreamcast.

Early life and Education

Stolar graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles where he was a member of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity.[1]

Career

Stolar, after leaving Sony, accepted an offer to become executive vice president in charge of product development and third-party relations at Sega of America.[2]

In December 1999, Stolar joined Mattel as President. In late 2005, Stolar became an advisor and director at Adscape Media. In 2009, Stolar became the Chief Executive Officer of GetFugu.[3] By 2010 Stolar had resigned.[4] In 2014, Stolar became the Chairman of ZOOM and the Jordan Freeman Group.[5]

He died on June 22, 2022.[6]
