History
Prior to the construction of Deerfoot Trail, which was originally named the Blackfoot Trail Freeway (that is, a freeway extension of Blackfoot Trail), Blackfoot Trail was the routing of Alberta Highway 2 through the southern portion of the city, before continuing to 66 Avenue SE (present-day Glenmore Trail) and Macleod Trail in the south. In the north end, Alberta Highway 2 continued on 17 Avenue, before turning north to Barlow Trail.
