Carabinieri Cavalry Regiment

The Carabinieri Cavalry Regiment was established on 1 April 1963 as part of a reorganization of the Italian Carabinieri.
A Colonel commands the Regiment and is located at the barracks "Tor di Quinto" (Rome) is employed by The Mobile Brigade.
Tasks of the department

- control of territory through patrols on horseback in urban green areas
- mopping up areas inaccessible
- sporting activity that enhances the prestige of theArma
The Regiment is the heir of Squadroni War, assigned to the protection of King Carlo Alberto during the First War of Independence, Pastrengo April 30, 1848 saved the sovereign by the Austrians, by implementing what has gone down in history as the Charge of Pastrengo.
In memory of those events, during the 115th anniversary of fact, the President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi has granted the department the banner of war.
The Carabinieri Regiment is very popular especially for their famous historic carousel that reaches its climax when they relive the same charge Pastrengo divided into two teams (one mounted on white horses, another on dark horses) and throw the one the each other with the sword stopping a few inches from contact.
