History
In September 1947, Casady Hall opened its doors for the first time. Thirty-six students in three grades – seventh, eighth, and ninth – and four faculty members shared 38 acres (150,000 m2) which included a small lake, a house and two barns. Tuition was $500 per year.[citation needed]
Casady's enrollment today averages 865 students with 115 faculty members throughout the 29-building college campus-like atmosphere on 80 acres (320,000 m2) now in the heart of Oklahoma City.
Academics
The 60 graduates of the Class of 2013 earned $4,000,000 in scholarship monies. The Class of 2013 received acceptances from 73 different colleges and universities and attended 31 different colleges in 18 different states, including Yale University, Duke University, Vanderbilt University, Washington University in St. Louis, The University of Texas-Austin, United States Military Academy, University of Southern California, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University, Colorado School of Mines, Texas A&M, Boston University, Rhodes College, George Washington University and many others. Many Casady graduates go on to post-secondary education.[1]
The Malone Family Foundation awarded Casady School with a $2 million scholarship endowment in May 2006. Created for students in grades seven through 12 who demonstrate outstanding abilities as well as financial need, the scholarship enables qualified young adults to benefit from an independent education.
Athletics
Casady students have the option to choose from 21 different sports that are offered during three seasons for the academic year. Casady School is a competing member of the Southwest Preparatory Conference and is a member of the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest.
Since 1956 Casady has won 154 SPC championships.[citation needed]
Religion
After the school was renamed Casady School on May 26, 1948, the Chapel of St. Edward the Confessor was completed thanks to the generosity of Frank Johnson Hightower. Ever since, the Chapel has been the spiritual center of Casady School. Today, more than 600 daily services are conducted during the school year, involving students of all ages. The community celebrations of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter have a firm tradition. The Chapel is also used for baptisms, weddings, funerals and celebrations in the lives of members of the Casady family throughout the year. Casady students participate in chapel services daily.
