CashWars was an American online game developer that operated a popular game of the same name. In June 2000, the company was headquartered in Amherst, Massachusetts, and incorporated in Delaware by August Zajonc, who served as president and treasurer.[1] The company was partnered with 24/7 Real Media (now owned by WPP Group) to distribute ads through CashWars.[2]
CashWars was an online, browser-based computer game in which players could engage in prospecting, theft, player alliances, and drilling on the fictional Planet Akzar to win prizes and earn virtual currency, which could be converted to real currency. At the time of the company's closure, and in less than a year, the number of registered players had increased from 60,000 in August 2000 to over 340,000 in May 2001. CashWars was logging 3.5 million moves per day as a measure of player engagement.[3][4]
