Social Democracy is a political ideology emerging in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In contrast to revolutionary anarchists or communists, social democrats believed that a transition to a democratic socialist society could be achieved through democratic evolutionary rather than through exclusively revolutionary means. They also rejected totalitarianism in all its forms.
