Cedar Park High School (CPHS) is a high school in Cedar Park, Texas; it was established in 1998 to serve as the second high school in the Leander Independent School District. The school was built due to the rapid growth in the area.[1][2]

The school's mascot is the Timberwolf, and the colors of CPHS are forest green and black with silver as an accent. Cedar Park High School competes in UIL district 25-5A. The football team plays at Gupton Stadium in Cedar Park, Texas. The other teams in 25-5A include Vista Ridge High School, Vandegrift High School, Marble Falls High School, Georgetown High School, Georgetown Eastview High School, and Dripping Springs High School. CPHS is also known for the performance of its drill team, Celebrities, choir,[2] and Timberwolf Band.[1]In 2015, Cedar Park made history in UIL by being the first school to win both band and football competitions in the same year.

Organizations and Athletics

Football

For the 2009 football season, the Cedar Park Timberwolves football team competed in the 16-5A district.They were District Champions. They were also District Champions in the 2010 season. Cedar Park also won 15-5A team championships in 2004-2005 with District W-L Record 7-0. In the 2011 season the Timberwolves were district runner ups to eventual state champions Lake Travis, Cedar Park had a 6-1 district record, and many defensive and offensive school records were shattered by Quarterback Brian Hogan, and Safety Zach Epinosa. Competing in 25-4A, along with the other LISD schools, the team was 2012 UIL 4A (Division 2) state finalist. After the final playoff game on December 21, 2012, Cedar Park became the 2012 State Champions. In 2014, Cedar Park went to the state championship once (in UIL 5A division 2) again and became runner-up in the state. On December 19, 2015, CPHS won their second state title defeating Frisco Lone Star 22-6.

Marching Band

The Cedar Park High School Timberwolf Band is very highly honored and has consistently been a finalist at UIL State and Bands Of America Regional and Super Regional marching band competitions. The band also competed in the 2010 Bands of America Marching Band Grand National Championships in Indianapolis, IN. The band advanced to the Finals, beating out dozens of bands from all over the United States along the way. The Cedar Park High School Timberwolf Band placed 10th in its first visit to the Bands of America Marching Band Grand National Championships, was crowned the 2011 UIL State 4A Marching Band Champion on November 8, 2011, and also has notable Percussion and Color Guard sections. In 2013, the band was awarded the Silver medal at the UIL 4A State Competition. In 2015, the band was crowned the UIL State 5A Marching Band Champion. The Cedar Park High School Percussion have won multiple Lonestar Classic "State Championships" as recently as 2011. The Color Guard has won 1st place in the 2011 Texas Color Guard Circuit State Championship as well as several other local and state competitions.

Basketball

The Cedar Park Timberwolves 2010 basketball team are District Champions 16-AAAAA. Final four appearance in 2011, lost to eventual state champion Dallas Kimball.

Cross Country

The Cedar Park Timberwolves boys cross country running team took eighth place at the 2008 Nike Cross National championships, and were ranked number 1 in the nation for boys cross country as of Oct. 2, 2009. The boy's team won state in 2010.[3]

Debate

The Cedar Park Timberwolves speech debate team had the best season in program history in 2013. Both Robin Duffee (Oral Interpretation) and Evan Grosch (Lincoln Douglas Debate) competed in the UIL Speech Debate State Tournament. Evan Grosch fallowed his junior year performance by winning both a district championship and a regional championship, as well he competed in the UIL Speech Debate State Tournament (5th overall). Evan was accompanied by Donghee Han and Seth DeRuiter who both placed in the top four at the 25 4A district meet. Cedar Park's Donghee made history as well by being the second Lincoln Douglas debater to qualify for a regional tournament from Cedar Park. Evan Grosch is the only Lincoln Douglas debater in LISD history to qualify for the state tournament (twice). Solidifying Cedar Park's debate program as the most successful in LISD history over the course of 2013-2014.[4]

The 2014-2015 Debate team continued momentum building upon the achievements of the 2013-2014 team. Macalah Thomas, led an effort to have the program enter the even more competitive Texas Forensic Association (TFA), National Speech & Debate Association debate circuit (NS&DA),[5] leading the team to national competition. After less than two months of competition, Macalah Thomas qualified for the TFA State Championships,[6] making her the first Lincoln Douglas Debater in LISD history to qualify for the TFA Texas State Tournament followed by Morgan Grosch who qualified several months later.[7] The 2014-2015 continued its momentum toward end of the season by sweeping the UIL district 25 5A competition and winning all three regional qualifier seats with Morgan Grosch taking the district title, Macalah Thomas taking 2nd, and York Westenhaver taking third. Macalah Thomas won 2nd place at the regional championship and competed at the UIL State Champion as the first female competitor and second CPHS debater to qualify for the event. Macalah Thomas won third place at the UIL State Championships receiving a bronze medal and is the only Lincoln-Douglas Debater in LISD history to qualify for both the TFA and UIL Texas State Debate Championships.[8]
