General information
Cheshunt School is a mixed Foundation school for students aged 11 to 18 years at Cheshunt in Hertfordshire. Students of all abilities attend the School. The School has, since 2003, been designated as a Specialist Technology College.
The School is very active in the local community, thanks to the efforts of the Headteacher, Staff, Governors and students of the School. The parents provide invaluable support as do the Friends of Cheshunt School parent and community fundraising group.
Most pupils transfer to the School from seven main partner primary schools though pupils come from over 30 schools in the south east of Hertfordshire and north Enfield. The school has strong links with local sports clubs.
Academic
The School has high standards in terms of hard work, academic success and self-discipline. There is an expectation of every student to make a contribution to the life and community of the School. We also have high expectations of our parents through their support for the School and their son or daughter's education.
History
Cheshunt Grammar School was built in 1935 in Windmill Lane. Over the years many newer buildings were added around the original building. In 1988 the County Council closed the nearby Bishopslea School in College Road, and distributed the pupils around the other local schools, although Cheshunt Grammar School took most of the pupils and some teachers. In 1990, it was decided to move the entire school to the old Bishopslea School site in College Road. The new school was called Cheshunt School and opened in September 1992. The old Grammar School was demolished and became a housing estate, with street names reflecting the names of past people at the school. Until 2005, the old outdoor pool remained disused and undeveloped, but has since been turned into flats.
