David The Good (born July, 1979) is an American writer of gardening books. A former painter, radio script writer, and audio editor, Good is now a full-time writer of gardening books and articles.

Early life

David The Good was born David Goodman in Plantation, Florida. He is the son of martyred missionary Dwight David Goodman [1] and Jennifer Sue Goodman. His father was assassinated in Turkey a few weeks before David's birth, forcing his mother to return to the United States where she later met and married author Bill Perry. David attended pre-school and Kindergarten at a private Christian school, though did poorly. The school administrators wished to have him repeat Kindergarten, which inspired his mother to pull him from the school and teach him at home instead. He thrived at home and was reading at a college level by the time he was eight. After finishing highschool at age 16, he went on to attend the Honor's Institute at Broward Community College on a full scholarship due to his exceptional test scores, then studied studio painting at Florida Atlantic University, graduating in 2001. He attributes much of his academic success to his parents' decision to homeschool him from first grade through high school.

Career

David The Good started writing professionally at age 18 when he took a part-time job writing promotional copy for Coral Ridge Ministries. After working his way up to a full-time audio editor position at Coral Ridge Ministries, he took a job with a media agency in Smyrna, Tennessee where he conceptualized, co-wrote and played the voice of Tony in The Ted & Tony Show, a short satirical radio feature for Crown Financial Ministries which eventually aired on over 1,000 outlets across the United States before its cancellation. David also served on the board of the Nashville non-profit art organization known as Untitled and participated in multiple gallery exhibitions before moving back to Florida. There he was certified as a Master Gardener by the Marion County Master Gardeners but left the organization after one of his articles was censored for containing biblical quotations. His food forest project in Anthony, Florida became well-known and was toured by hundreds of interested gardeners. He launched the website FloridaSurvivalGardening.com in August of 2011, posting a new post every weekday for three years, before absorbing that site into TheSurvivalGardener.com, where he posts almost daily. Good also operated a rare edible plant nursery for two years before selling it in 2016 along with his food forest and moving to the island of Grenada in the West Indies. In 2015 he wrote the booklet Create Your Own Florida Food Forest and was subsequently signed to Castalia House who published his book Compost Everything: The Good Guide to Extreme Composting and Grow or Die: The Good Guide to Survival Gardening that same year. Both were Amazon category bestsellers. Good also self-published Totally Crazy Easy Florida Gardening in 2015. In 2017 Castalia House published Push the Zone: The Good Guide to Growing Tropical Plants Beyond the Tropics, which shares David The Good's experiences with creating microclimates and shares how to grow edible tropical plants such as coffee and mangoes outside the tropics. In 2018, Castalia House released Turned Earth: A Jack Broccoli Novel, the world's first Gardening Thriller featuring a cover by artist Jeremiah Humphries and interior illustrations by artist Eric Towers. In 2019, Castalia House published Free Plants for Everyone: The Good Guide to Plant Propagation, then in 2020 published his latest book Florida Survival Gardening. In 2020, David announced his intent to massively expand and illustrate his booklet Create Your Own Florida Food Forest to turn it into a full-size book.
