The racial makeup of the city was 77.07% White, 10.29% Black or African American, 10.48% Native American, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 1.44% from other races, and 0.64% from two or more races. 1.96% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,043 household out of which 31.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.4% were married couples living together, 15.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.0% were non-families. 29.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.94.
The median income for a household in the city was $23,125, and the median income for a family was $30,610. Males had a median income of $22,138 versus $12,540 for females. There are 992 household out of which 31.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.6% were married couples living together, 23.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.4% were non-families. 28.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.03.
