Education in Somaliland
Education in Somaliland, an autonomous region in Somalia, is administered by the Ministry of Education in Somaliland. Education contains both private and public schooling systems.
Education
Somaliland had a lack of education systems in place (except for traditional Koranic schools), threatening the education of school-aged children. The government of Somaliland, though facing a tough recovery scheme, managed to re-energize the education system. By 1996, 27000 school-aged children were enrolled in primary schools.[1]
Criticism
Critics cite the outdated public school system, school privatization, inadequate infrastructure.[2] are hindering the education system in Somaliland.
Tertiary Education
There are an abundance of tertiary education centres in the Hargeisa area, such as the University of Hargeisa, Somaliland University of Technology, Gollis University, and Edna Adan Maternity Hospital.[3]
