Freewire is an internet based television service (IPTV) originally specifically targeted at students through University portals and networks. Freewire Television now reaches around 40,000 students at a variety of locations in the country, and in the process became the largest IPTV service ahead of BT Vision and TalkTalk TV. Freewire Television is available at around 100,000 student rooms across the UK.[1]
Success within the IPTV market has led Freewire to expand into telecommunications and broadband.

Freewire subscription TV services
While the main freewire TV service is free in a similar fashion to Freeview, Freewire offer a range of subscription services. Freewire Extra! gives users another 21 channels, including FX, Living TV, Bloomberg, MTV and National Geographic.[2] The final package offered is entitled Freewire International and offers a range of foreign language and culture entertainment, sport, music and movie channels. The subscription system for this pack is pay for what you want.
Other products
Alongside their popular IPTV service, Freewire have also launched a telephone and broadband service designed to attract students with its low prices. The phone service was the first VOIP service to be launched in residential marketing, with Inuk the owners of Freewire doing a $140 million deal with Cable and Wireless.[3]
