Gambierdiscus toxicus is a species of dinoflagellate that can cause ciguatera.[1] and is known to produce several polyether marine toxins, including ciguatoxin, maitotoxin and gambieric acid.[2] The species was discovered attached to the surface of brown macroalgae in the Gambier Islands, French Polynesia.[2]
