Grigori Yakovlevich Kriss (Ukrainian: Григорій Якович Крісс, Russian: Григорий Яковлевич Крисс) (born December 24, 1940, in Kiev, in the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union) was a Soviet world champion épée fencer.

Fencing career

He trained at the Armed Forces sports society in Kiev. Kriss was a member of the USSR National Team between 1963 and 1973.

World Championships

In individual World Championship competition, Kriss won a gold medal in 1971 and a silver in 1967, both in épée. He won four world team épée medals: gold in 1969, silver in 1966 and 1971, and bronze in 1965.

Olympics

Kriss holds four Olympic medals. He took the gold medal in individual épée at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, won silver medals in individual and team épée at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, and won the bronze in team épée at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich.

Hall of Fame

Kriss, who is Jewish, was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1989.
