Harran is a parish, a village, and a former municipality in Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. The parish and village of Harran is located in the northern part of the present-day municipality of Grong, about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) north of the village of Medjå, the administrative center of Grong. Harran is part of the traditional district of Namdalen. The village lies along the river Namsen and the European route E6 highway.[1]

Harran Station is located in the village along the Nordland Line railway. It was opened in 1940, when the railway line was in use to Mosjøen. The station has been unmanned since 1989. Harran Church, also located in the village of Harran, dates back to 1874. The wooden church was built to seat 260 people.

History

The parish of Harran was created as a municipality on 1 July 1923 when it was split off from the municipality of Grong. Initially, the municipality of Harran had a population of 630. On 1 January 1964, Harran was reunited with Grong. Prior to the merger, Harran had a population of 1,085.[3]
