KLUE (103.5 FM, "KLUE 103.5") is a radio station broadcasting a Contemporary Hit Radio music format.[1] Licensed to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, USA, the station is currently owned by Benjamin Stratemeyer and features programming from Dial Global.[2]

History

The Federal Communications Commission issued a construction permit for the station to Twin Eagle Communications on October 26, 1990.[3] The station was assigned the call sign KZMA on December 12, 1990, and received its license to cover on February 2, 1999.[4] On April 26, 2002, Twin Eagle assigned the station's license to the current owner, Benjamin Stratemeyer, at a price of $800,000.[5] On March 27, 2003, the station changed its call sign to the current KLUE.[6]

The KLUE calls previously belonged to a Top 40 AM station in Longview, TX that transmitted on 1280 kHz. KLUE Longview was on the air from approximately 1965 until 1984. KLUE Longview made history in 1966 when they organized one of the first Beatles bonfires in response to John Lennon's more popular than Jesus comment. The KLUE bonfire was held on Saturday, August 13, 1966. The following day, the KLUE broadcast tower was struck by lightning, damaging much of their equipment and sending the news director to the hospital.[7]
