Karina Lombard (born January 21, 1969) is a French-American actress and singer. She is perhaps best known for her role as Marina Ferrer on the Showtime series The L Word, The 4400, Geneviève in Rescue Me, and Isabelle Two in Legends of the Fall.
Early life
Karina Lombard was born in Tahiti, the youngest of five. Her four older siblings are named Helen, Ines, Charles and Denise. Her mother, Nupuree Lightfoot, is a Lakota Native American medicine woman. Her father, Henri Lombard, scion of a wealthy banking family, is of Swiss-Russian and Italian descent. She lived all over Europe such as in Spain for a period of time with her father and siblings.[1][2] Spanish was her first language and Lombard stated, "I was in and out of Switzerland. We moved around a lot, but I did most of my schooling in Switzerland."[3]
Lombard attended multiple boarding schools and is proficient in Spanish, English, Italian, French and German.[4] She moved to New York at the age of 18 and began modeling and acting.
Career
Lombard's major break in modeling was a Calvin Klein photo shoot with a Native American theme. One of her photographs was chosen for a billboard. Her photographs appeared in Elle and Vogue.[4]
Her first film role was as a princess in L'île (The Island).[4] Her first major film was Wide Sargasso Sea in 1993 followed by The Firm. She then went on to appear in the 1994 film Legends of the Fall, followed by Last Man Standing alongside Bruce Willis in 1996.[4] In the 2000s she moved into television, appearing on the first season of The L Word and The 4400. She portrayed the recurring character Geneviève on FX's Rescue Me.
Her theatre training and stage experience primarily comes from New York City's Gallery Theatre, the Neighborhood Playhouse, the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and the Actors Studio. She has worked as a composer for the Cirque du Soleil.[citation needed]
