Matt Delligatti is the former mayor of Fairmont, West Virginia, the county seat of Marion County. He is a member of the Democratic Party. In January 2009, he became the youngest mayor in Fairmont's history at age 22, only two years after being elected the youngest ever member of Fairmont's City Council. Delligatti was born on May 22, 1986 at Fairmont General Hospital in Fairmont, West Virginia.
He is currently a managing partner at Kettering Delligatti Law Offices, a firm he founded in Fairmont with longtime friend Paul Kettering.[3]
City Council
In January 2007 at the age of twenty, Delligatti became the youngest ever city councilman of Fairmont after winning an election in November 2006. Matt and his older brother Anthony ran the campaign together.
On January 14, 2009 at the age of twenty-two, Delligatti was chosen mayor of Fairmont by a 5-3 vote of the city council, becoming the youngest person ever to hold that title.[4]
Academics
He graduated from West Virginia University in 2008 with a bachelor of arts degree in political science. In 2007, Delligatti became West Virginia University's 18th recipient of the prestigious Harry S. Truman Scholarship.[5] The Truman Foundation gives out these awards annually to a select few American students who are dedicated to public service. Delligatti graduated in 2008 from West Virginia University where he received the Order of Augusta, an award of academic excellence granted to eight students annually. He received his Juris Doctorate from the West Virginia University College of Law.
Athletics
In 2004 Matt won the West Virginia AAA high school state wrestling tournament at the 189 pound weight class.
