Matthew Laurance (born Matthew Dycoff) is a film and television actor.[1] Laurance appeared on Saturday Night Live during its sixth season.{[2]

He was born in Queens, New York and raised in Long Island, New York. Laurance is the twin brother of Mitchell Laurance.[3][4] He attended Tufts University.[citation needed]

He left SNL after a mere one season that totaled to only 10 episodes.[citation needed] He portrayed bass player Sal Amato in the 1983 cult hit Eddie and the Cruisers, and was the only cast member besides Michael Paré and Michael Antunes to appear in the 1989 sequel Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives![1]

He also had a role in Streets of Fire,[1] as one of the two Ardmore police officers who enter the bus Tom Cody (Michael Paré) was on, making this the third film he appeared in with Paré[citation needed], the other being Popeye Doyle.[1]

He also starred as a detective novelist in Duet on Fox from 1987-89.[3] He also appeared on TV in thirtysomething.[4]

From 1991-2000 he had the recurring role of Mel Silver, father of David Silver and Erin Silver from Beverly Hills, 90210.
