Michael Shayne, Private Detective is a 1940 American mystery film directed by Eugene Forde and starring Lloyd Nolan, Marjorie Weaver and Joan Valerie.[1] It is based on Brett Halliday's novel The Private Practice of Michael Shayne. It was the first in a series of Michael Shayne films starring Nolan.

Synopsis

A private detective is hired to act as a guardian to a wealthy man's daughter, who has been gambling away her allowance at the racetrack and associating with shady characters in a casino. However, he quickly finds himself embroiled in a murder case and has to stay one step ahead of the police while he attempts to solve it.
