Girls Aloud are an English-Irish girl group that were created through the ITV1 talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. The group consists of Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh.

Following the success of their debut single "Sound of the Underground", which spent four weeks at number one, the group has been successful in achieving a string of twenty consecutive top ten singles (including three more number ones) and two number one albums in the United Kingdom. All of their albums have been certified platinum, with their greatest hits album The Sound of Girls Aloud selling over one million copies. They have been nominated for five BRIT Awards, winning Best Single in 2009 for "The Promise". The group has sold ten million records worldwide.

Girls Aloud's collaborations with Brian Higgins and his songwriting and production team Xenomania have earned the group critical acclaim, due to an innovative approach to mainstream pop music. The group has become one of the few UK reality television acts to achieve continued success, amassing a fortune of £30 million by May 2010. Guinness World Records lists them as "Most Successful Reality TV Group" in the 2007 edition. They also hold the record for "Most Consecutive Top Ten Entries in the UK by a Female Group" in the 2008 edition.

Nadine Elizabeth Louise Coyle (born 15 June 1985) is an Irish singer, songwriter, and actress.

Coyle first rose to fame in 2001, after entering the Irish version of the talent show Popstars. As one of the winners of the show, Coyle was selected to become a member of the group Six. However, she could not join the group because she was underage. Coyle was encouraged by Louis Walsh to compete on the UK's Popstars: The Rivals. She thus landed herself a place in the final line-up, becoming a member of Girls Aloud. During Girls Aloud's hiatus, Coyle started work on solo material. Her debut album Insatiable and its title track were released in November 2010 through her own label Black Pen Records in partnership with Tesco. The album was a commercial failure. Coyle is engaged to American football player Jason Bell. She currently lives in Los Angeles.

"The Promise" is a pop song performed by British all-female pop group Girls Aloud, written and produced by Brian Higgins and his production team Xenomania. It was released as the first single from the group's fifth studio album Out of Control (2008) and became Girls Aloud's fourth number one on the UK Singles Chart. Influenced by music of the 1960s, the song is an upbeat love song that was written to announce Girls Aloud as "a supergroup." Critically appreciated and commercially successful, "The Promise" was awarded Best British Single at the 2009 BRIT Awards, the group's first win at the ceremony.

Chemistry is the third studio album by British all-female pop group Girls Aloud. Recording sessions took place in 2005, following Girls Aloud's first tour What Will the Neighbours Say? Live. It was released by Polydor Records on 5 December 2005 in the United Kingdom. The album was entirely produced by Xenomania. The album was described as "a concept album which relates to the girls and what it's like to be a twentysomething girl in London". The Guardian said that the album's "lyrics sound like Blur's Parklife rewritten by the editorial staff of Heat magazine" and "holds a distinctly ambiguous mirror up to noughties celebrity". Girls Aloud came under fire for the album's allegedly "dirty lyrics".

Despite being the group's lowest charting album to date, Chemistry was certified platinum in the UK and Ireland and earned the group critical acclaim. In 2008, Slant Magazine said that "Chemistry is probably still their crowning glory". It spawned four top ten singles - "Long Hot Summer", "Biology" (called "the best pop single of the last decade" by Peter Cashmore of The Guardian), their cover of Dee C. Lee's "See the Day", and lastly, "Whole Lotta History".
