Portal:The Jackson Family
The Jackson family are an African American family of musicians who originated in Gary, Indiana and later relocated to Encino, California. Performing as members of The Jackson 5 and as solo artists, the children of Joseph Walter and Katherine Esther Jackson influenced and shaped the sound of popular music. As a group, the eldest sons Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael; set the family on a path of musical and television success that spread among siblings Rebbie, La Toya, Randy and Janet. They are followed by some of the next generation of Jacksons such as Taj, TJ and Taryll—collectively known as 3T. The acclaim of The Jackson 5 (later billed as The Jacksons) led the group to become known as the "First Family of Soul"; the continued success of Michael and Janet's careers as solo artists led the Jacksons to become known as the "Royal Family of Pop". Eight of the nine Jackson siblings have gold records to their credits. In recent years, certain members of the family have been honored for their work: in 1997 The Jackson 5 were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Michael would follow the group to the hall in 2001. In 2002, Joseph was acknowledged as "the best musical manager of all time" by the Hall in Cleveland. The Jacksons, Michael and Janet all received stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1980, 1984 and 1990 respectively. Did you know? -

Randy first appeared live with his brothers at the end of 1971. The event was a Christmas show the Jackson 5 held for blind children. Although he was on every Jackson 5 tour from 1972 forward, Randy didn't officially join the family band until 1975, when they changed their name to The Jacksons and signed with Epic Records. A forthcoming album, Startin' Over, has yet to be released. She is also the first Jackson sister to pursue a career in music. Jackson aspired to be an attorney specializing in business law. She attended college for a short time before her father insisted that she pursue a career in show business like the rest of the family. La Toya Jackson was one of the first siblings present at Reagan-UCLA Medical Center on June 25, 2009, after brother Michael Jackson was pronounced dead after suffering cardiac arrest. She was named as the informant on her brother's death certificate. Selected family member -Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, dancer, and entertainer. His 1982 album Thriller remains the best-selling album of all time, with Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory (1995) also among the world's best selling albums. He is widely credited with having transformed the music video from a promotional tool into an art form with videos for his songs such as "Billie Jean", "Beat It" and "Thriller" making him the first African American artist to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. Selected television show -The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty is an American reality television program which stars members of the musical Jackson family and airs on A&E Network. Prior to the debut of the series, the show had initially been filmed as a one-off hour-long special about the The Jacksons (minus lead singer Michael), and their intention to release an album and begin a tour in celebration of the band's fortieth year in music. Following Michael's death in June 2009, more footage of the family was shot and it was commissioned as series. The show debuted on December 13, 2009, with the episode "The Jackson Family". After one season and six episodes, the series ended on January 27, 2010, with the episode "Now, What?". In February 2010, it was reported that the four brothers are reportedly in negotiations to film episodes for a second season to the reality series. Selected family member -Joseph Walter "Joe" Jackson (born July 26, 1929) is an American talent manager and the father of the Jackson family of entertainers which includes The Jackson 5. By 1964, Joseph had discovered that his three eldest sons, Jackie, Tito and Jermaine, had musical talent. He had Tito play for him with Jackie and Jermaine backing up vocally. Seeing their budding talent, he helped form an early incarnation of The Jackson 5 with two neighborhood youths though eventually younger brothers Marlon and Michael joined. Joseph's image as a father became tarnished from the late 1980s onward, as the media reported stories told by some of his children that he was abusive towards them. When he managed his family, he allegedly ordered each of them to call him "Joseph", which contributed to several siblings being estranged from their father. Selected family member -Toriano Adaryll "Tito" Jackson (born October 15, 1953) is an American singer and guitarist and original member of the Jackson 5. It was not until the young Jackson broke a string on the guitar that father Joseph learned about his musical aspirations. Joseph was then inspired to form a group around Tito and his two brothers, Jackie and Jermaine into a band in 1964 called The Jackson Brothers; eventually, younger brothers Marlon and Michael joined the group, and the brothers formed The Jackson Five in 1964. He is now an executive producer for the show The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty along with the rest of his brothers. Tito also have three grandchildren.
