The R13 and R14 is a pair of lines of Rodalies de Catalunya's regional rail services, operated by Renfe Operadora. It runs southwards from Barcelona, passing through Valls region. The line then continues towards western Catalonia as far as Lleida. Trains use either the route Barcelona - Valls - Lleida, or the route Barcelona - Tarragona - Lleida. The trains that use the first route are designated R13, whereas the trains that use the latter route are designated R14.
All R13 and R14 trains use the Aragó Tunnel in Barcelona, where they share tracks with Rodalies de Catalunya's Barcelona commuter rail services R2, R2 Nord and R2 Sud, as well as regional rail lines R11, R15 and R16, calling at Sants and Passeig de Gràcia stations.[2] Between Barcelona and Sant Vicenç de Calders, all trains use the conventional Madrid–Barcelona railway, R13 trains between Sant Vicenç de Calders and La Plana-Picamoixons, use the La Plana-Picamoixons–Sant Vicenç de Calders railway, while R14 trains between Sant Vicenç de Calders and Tarragona, they use the Valencia–Sant Vicenç de Calders railway and between Tarragona and La Plana-Picamoixons use the Tarragona–Lleida railway, and all trains between La Plana-Picamoixons and Lleida, use again the Tarragona–Lleida railway.
The line originally was known by the name Ca4a, as part of the Catalunya Expres, which is MD line 35 (Barcelona - Lleida). Together with lines R11, R12, R15, and R16, the R13 and R14, are considered two of the first lines of the Rodalies regional rail system for Barcelona.[3][3]
