Raigachhi is a census town in Rajarhat CD Block in Barasat Sadar subdivision,[1] in North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Rajarhat police station serves this town.

Demographics

As per 2011 Census of India Raigachhi had a total population of 8,245, of which 4,196 (51%) were males and 4,049 (49%) were females. Population below 6 years was 1,045. The total number of literates in Raigachhi was 5,604 (77.83 % of the population over 6 years).[2]

As of 2001 India census,[3] Raigachhi had a population of 6728. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Raigachhi has an average literacy rate of 55%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 58%, and female literacy is 52%. In Raigachhi, 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Healthcare

North 24 Parganas district has been identified as one of the areas where ground water is affected by arsenic contamination.[4]
