According to 1715 data, the Buda numbered 1,539 houses, of which 769 were South Slavic (mostly Serbian).[citation needed] Prominent Serbs who lived or worked in Pest include Sava Tekelija, the founder of the Tekelijanum, an educational institution whose building stands to this day.
