Star Wars: Tarkin is a Star Wars novel by James Luceno, published in November 2014. Set between the films Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, it follows the rise of the character Grand Moff Tarkin. Tarkin was one of the first four novels published in the franchise after Lucasfilm redefined Star Wars continuity in April 2014.
Overview
Tarkin chronicles how Wilhuff Tarkin meets and aligns himself with Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader prior to the events of A New Hope, and explores Tarkin's origins.[1]
Publication
With the 2012 acquisition of Lucasfilm by The Walt Disney Company, most of the licensed Star Wars novels and comics produced since the 1983 film Return of the Jedi were declared non-canon to the franchise in April 2014.[2][3][4] Tarkin was subsequently announced as one of the first four canon novels to be released in 2014 and 2015.[4]
