Subarna Shamsher Rana (Nepali: सुवर्ण सम्शेर राणा) (1910–1977) was a leading figure in the movement to overthrow the ruling Rana oligarchy and to establish democracy in Nepal. He was part of the leadership of the Nepali Congress in the late 1940s, opposing his relatives, the Rana family, who held power in Nepal at the time. He is one of the most revered leaders of Nepali Congress.
In 1951, he became the Minister of Finance in the Congress-Rana government led by Sir Mohan Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana.[1] He was appointed Chairman of the Council of Ministers, the head of government in Nepal at the time, in 1958 until elections were held in 1959, after which fellow Congress politician Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala became Prime Minister. After the coup d'état by King Mahendra in 1960, he continued his struggle to bring multiparty democracy in Nepal.
He was the grandson of the Prime Minister Bhim Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana & son of Hiranya Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana.
