Thomas E. Hassan was the 14th Principal of Phillips Exeter Academy (PEA) and is currently the 2nd First Gentleman of New Hampshire as the husband of Governor Maggie Hassan.[1][2]

A graduate of Brown University, Hassan earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in education at Harvard University. He joined Exeter’s faculty as the director of college counseling in 1989. An experienced administrator and teacher, he has also served the school as dean of admissions.[3][4] In 2011, the New York Observer named him as one of 24 "Elite Private School Power Players".[5]

Hassan lives in Exeter, New Hampshire with his wife and their two children.[6]

Hassan retired from PEA at the end of the 2014-2015 academic year and is currently the President of School Year Abroad. [7] [8]
