Transworld Associates: Pakistan's backbone for international connectivity.
The booming telecom sector with its increasing broadband connectivity, record cellular subscribers, and a maturing corporate customer base requires an optimum international communication backbone that meets critical reliability, stability, and scalability requirements guaranteed by service-level agreements based on international Tier 1 standards.[citation needed]
Transworld was set up in the wake of deregulation and privatization in Pakistan's telecom sector and was given a mandate to operate the first privately owned international submarine fiber optic cable system for the purpose of providing the burgeoning telecom sector an alternative option for international internet and voice connectivity.
The TW1 cable system owned by Transworld commenced operations in 2006. It spans 1,274 km across the Arabian Sea and connects Karachi, Pakistan, to Al Seeb, Oman, and Fujairah, UAE where it seamlessly peers with other Tier 1 carrier networks to provide consumers in Pakistan international L2/L3 connectivity to the Internet.[citation needed]
In the few years of its operations, Transworld has quickly become the favored choice of every major broadband ISP, licensed voice operator, and large corporation that requires Tier 1 bandwidth. It is a vital artery for voice and data communications in and out of the country and one of the major internet routes for Pakistan.[citation needed]
