Universidad Mayor (Spanish for "Major University") is a Chilean private university. Its main campus is in Santiago, with a secondary campus in Temuco.
History of Universidad Mayor (UM)
The University was founded in Santiago, in 1988. The first two degrees given were Civil engineering and Architecture
Then, in 1989 Forest engineering and Agronomy were included in the academical offer, being the first private university in giving those degrees. Lately in 1991, Veterinary medicine was added, and six years later Dentistry. In 1998, the opening of the Medical School, consecrated the university as a pioneer institution for the scientific-technological formation. Further in time, more health area careers were open like Kinesiology and Speech-language pathology.
In the 21st century, the University had dental clinics, kinesiological clinics, psicological clinics and speech-language clinics. In 2005, the university was accredited by the "Comisión Nacional de Pregrado CNAP". Lately, the university was accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.[1] That allowed the university to enter a select group of universities including Princeton University, Georgetown University and Johns Hopkins University.[2]
Sports
UMayor features soccer, hockey, volleyball, tennis, chess, table tennis, taekwondo, dance and basketball teams, competing within higher education leagues and championships.[3]
