Our Factory of the Future team is working with manufacturers who supply physical products and components to the data center boom. If data centers are new to you, here are interesting talking points related to the physical infrastructure: • The cost of a data center is split 75% between IT equipment (servers, networking, storage) and 25% infrastructure (construction, electrical, thermal, back-ups). • 40% of the energy consumption goes towards computing. 58% goes to cooling. Data centers account for 4% of global electricity consumption. • Roughly 80% of the data centers online today were built in the last 4 years • Just about any story you read on data centers is in reference to hyperscale data centers. The definition varies, but hyperscale generally means a facility with 5,000 servers, 500 cabinets, and at least 100,000 square feet of facility space. In the U.S., Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, and Google account for 60% of these facilities (see video) with the U.S. Government accounting for the majority of what remains.  • Northern Virginia has the highest concentration of data centers and roughly 25% of all U.S. compute power. The next largest geography has 5%. • The largest data center in the U.S. is Meta's Prineville, Oregon facility at 4.6mm square feet. The largest data center globally is in Beijing and is roughly 13 million square feet in size.

Our Davenport facility recently had the privilege of supporting our local heroes at the ELDRIDGE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT INC! At the “Grilling for Charity” event, the Invio team joined forces to donate food, with all proceeds going toward essential, life-saving equipment for the department, including new AEDs and an automated LUCAS CPR device. Thank you to our incredible team for rallying behind our community and stepping up to support a vital local organization. We’re proud to contribute to making our neighborhood a safer place! #CommunitySupport #FireDepartment #StrongerTogether #TeamInvio

From our AGV Hayride to the bin-picking robot cell demo and games, there was something for everyone to enjoy. We even added some unique decorations to set the scene and make the day truly memorable. Big thanks to our incredible team and guests for making it such a fantastic day! #OpenHouse #Automation #Innovation

To get started on the automation journey, one of the very first conversations I have with my customers is actually around teamwork. I rely on this infographic to drive a lot of interesting discussion. Not only does this visual help further define the various application areas in a facility, but also this helps prompt conversation on how to build out a project team with the right mix of technical capabilities and skillsets. If we think about the landscape of available technologies to manufacturers today, we can segment the Factory of the Future into two dimensions: 1) “Up the Stack” and 2) “Across the Floor”. Projects aimed at climbing the factory tech stack, which I simplify as here as the ANSI/ISA-95 pyramid, may include initiatives such as Track & Trace, OEE Dashboards, or Digitized Work Instructions. These team members are commonly fluent in PLCs, Controls Engineering, and Ignition or other middleware platform. Ideally, these teams also include representation from the IT world. If talking about projects on the factory floor, these teams include skillsets more aligned with process design and industrial engineering problem solving. Ideally, product design engineers are also represented and help provide input into the direction of the automation project. In practice, for most manufacturers the roster of projects has elements of both dimensions. I’ve noticed that the customers who are furthest along in their automation journey often have centralized these competencies into a ‘Automation Center of Excellence’. This team is designed to intentionally bring together cross-functional stakeholders, and ultimately drive sustainment and long-term ‘ownership’ of the various solutions. #factoryofthefuture #automation #manufacturing #robotics #TeamInvio
